In my situation I actually made it worse by "turning it sideways the wrong way" (I know nothing mechanically)....rookie error apparently as it affected the engine.
I bought a cheapie that runs perfectly (so much lighter for my back and warranty) so not end of the world!

Yeah I've done that when I was a young bloke. Spark plug facing up on a 4 stroke. And also unplug it
