Just like they think (and most of the world) that if you visit Australia, as soon as you step off the plane you get attacked and killed by the wildlife.
Depending on the country I kindly remind them that more people die on their roads in 24 hours than all our Shark/spider/scorpion/crocodile/snake/blue ring octopus/jellyfish fatalities combined.

they also think that we know each other and its like half an hour drive from one side to the other or top to bottom and are shocked when i show them an overlay of the size of aust compared to the us
and then tell them theres only 7 states in there not 52
