I think if you have a track day and you can run on your own pace you can be sympathetic to the car- ie do bursts and then have periods of cooling cruising for tyres and car to cool a bit.

But if it is a timed track day of 5 laps etc - yeah- is brutal on the car and if you like your car you are cringing if you are really pushing for a time because you have to abuse your car- brakes, gear changes, WOT each gear and heel and toeing aggressively......
