So, just bought what I thought was a new o2 sensor off ebay. Turns up covered in grease in some bubble wrap. Obviousely it isnt new (the copper bit is discoloured), so what do we usually clean these with? I might as well make use of it now Ive blown money on it. Bloody hell Im annoyed. Didnt say anywhere that it was used and the picture made it look new. My understanding with these though is that theyre not a re usable part. Anyone shed some light?

They're a consumable item so it's a bit of a pointless exercise replacing your old one with an old one of unknown klms. Got a link to the item? If he has tried to make it look new and it isn't that is against eBay's T&C so you might have some recourse on getting your money back, first ask for a refund though.

I just got off the phone from him and he says its definately new and that they heat treat them when theyre made thats why the end that goes in the headers is discoloured. I suppose for $64 though its not worth stressing about. |

While Ive got a thread open, is it best to just swap them over or is it a good idea to run the car without one for a few minutes (so ive been told)?

When I changed mine recently I fiited the sensor then reset the computer so it would relearn from scratch.

Yep will post on here but giving it a full service and new plugs and an ecu reset at the same time so not really the best comaprison but we'll see.

I just recieved mine 2 days ago, and its the same. I remember thinking when I bought another one off him about 6 months ago, the b...ard ripped me off, lol. Did the same thing this time, till it hit me thats what it was supposed to look like, lol.

I replaced my last year and the fuel economy did improve for a short time.If the sensor is new it should of had a plastic covering over the grease.

Now when do these need replacing? What I mean by that is not the length of time but is there any symtoms to look for?

So, bit of a bastard to get in if you have pacemakers and a fat gut like me, but all in and there might be a really slight difference in economy too but nothing really noticeable. I think though that my old one is in good condition. As for power the car does feel more powerful but I dont know how the sensor would give me more power and torque, so its either because of the fresh oil and filter or its all in my head.
