Hi all,
Back with some questions about the ford focus 2008 transmission. First of all, is this a dual clutch transmission? and is this the 4F27E? Lots of information about the US focus, not sure if its exactly the same in Australia. Next, the problem. When moving from park to reverse there is a clunk sound coming from the front half of the car. Moving to reverse from any other gear is fine. The clunk is the loudest when the reverse gear is selected after the car has been parked for awhile. The clunk is not too loud after it has been driven for awhile. There is also always a slow hum/whine while the reverse transmission engages (about 1 second to engage). This can be heard almost all the time the car goes into reverse and from any gear. I had replaced some fluid and the transmission fluid filter at the start of this year Worried that my transmission is going to need a rebuild. Thanks for reading! |

Quite often cars will clunk coming out of park if when you stop, the first thing you do is put it in park before applying the handbrake or releasing the pedal brake. You end up with the weight of the car held by the transmission and not the handbrake.

The thing is, I was aware of that and very often I press the brakes put the car into neutral, pull the hand brakes, release the brakes to let the car rest on the hand brakes, then put the car into park. I do this deliberately to prevent wear on the parking pawls. I have never heard this clunk happen before too. This sound can also happen when coming to a stop (engine still running), put to park, then put to reverse.

Yes, you have a 4F27E transmission, providing it is a petrol model, and now the diesel as pursuit2359 has pointed out

Probably the engine mounts... there's a hidden one below the battery tray, the other two should be pretty easy to locate
