Default New throttle body & intake finally installed

Finally found some time on the weekend to get these two intake modifications done.

The first task was to install the Pumaspeed 60mm Throttle Body - which is bored out 5mm bigger than the standard throttle body. The standard throttle body isn't what you would call restrictive, but the 60mm unit does give 20% more flow and increases throttle response. Pumaspeed / European parts claim up to a 4kw increase in power.

The old unit was filthy, in desperate need of some carbie cleaner!

The new unit soon became the most shiny thing in my dirty engine bay!

The next job took a bit longer - installing a BMC Carbon Dynamic Airbox. I really wanted to get rid of the exposed pod filter I had, especially before the summer heat set in! The CDA can be a fully enclosed system, and has proven power gains. The most time consuming part of the installation was installing a bracket in the engine bay to mount the filter. I also needed to install a breather filter, as there is no inlet for a crankcase breather line with the CDA.

"Mini-me" - the BMC breather filter:

The finished product - cooler air coming in from the front left corner of the engine bay, to which I will re-route a cold air feed.

The result? I took it for a run once it was all done and I was very happy with the results of one afternoon's work.

It looks like all the 'bolt-on' engine mods are done. Perhaps a custom tune next. I'll probably only have the car for another year or two, but if I was keep it longer I'd probably have to consider the Cosworth Intake Manifold and camshafts.

Nice work Mate.
Is the throttle response noticeably better?

Throttle response has definitely improved. I believe there has been a climb in power too, at > 3000 rpm.

DZ, another great example of the quality of your mods.
As always...spot on. A1 job mate.
Your work is always well researched, quality parts, and well executed.
That BMC unit is reputedly one of the best available, and I'm sure is yielding you more power and torque.
Great work

ps Be careful using carbie cleaner on old throttle bodies. Many of them have a special oily coating ( to trap deposits??? not sure) that apparently shouldn't be disturbed

I think you have set the benchmark on this side of the forums for quality mods!

Thanks for the tip mate. I would only look at cleaning the old throttle body if I was returning the engine to stock.

My advice would be to save your money and spend it on some custom headers first - much more bang for your buck!

Got it from the UK, online, when our dollar was doing a lot better last year. It worked out cheaper than buying it retail in Australia.

Just looking at the Cam Cover Breather, you know that clip comes off and you can mount it direct onto the Cover rather than have a bit of line like you did there. Its the same diameter as the filter neck so should fit straight on, unless it fouls against something that I don't know about. Would just neaten it up a tad, but yeh.

But on the home run buddy looking good. I am getting sick of the constant flat spots in my power delivery which is a pain, specially when Air-con decides to kick back in when accelerating.

Late reply: just back from a month away and trying to catch up with everything that has been going on here! 819FLY, I tried that originally, but then the engine cover didn't fit back on because the breather filter was in the way. So I had to extend the filter out a little bit with that extra line. Granted, it did look better with the clip off.
