Hi, has anyone tried the different types of electronic ignition conversion kits available for a Lucas Distributor 25D??
UK has the Accuspark kit for under $50 posted to Sydney and sits in the distributor. Petronix also does a conversion kit but i dont know the price yet..... Has anyone used either of these or is there anything else out there??

The car is a 1964 Ford Consul Capri 1500 GT. The motor is the same as a Cortina mk1 1500 GT.........

Hasn't anyone contemplated this???
Are there any Mk1 Cortina owners that have swapped their car to Electronic Ignition?? Any help would be appreciated, particularly running in Summer??

This is the Petronix kit on ebay USA, and this particular one suits the Lucas dizzy standard on 1600 xflows. Don't know if it's the same for the 1500 pre-xflow, but I have heard good reports about the Petronix conversions. I was going to use one, but my dizzy needs too much work, so I'm going for a new electronic setup (probably from Burtons or similar).

thanks guys, its amazing the difference in price of petronix in Aus compared to US or UK, its almost double the price here for the same kit.... i will try the accuspark kit then if it doesnt work out go for the petronix.........

I have a spitfire one for my Mk2 2L; coil, ignition unit and dizzy (obviously) which was about 400-500 bout five years ago and it's been bullet proof. dunno if that helps.

I have brand new Lucas style distributors that have all internal componants. look just like a standard one from the outside with 2 wires coming out.
They are dear at $500 BUT they give the biggest spark and most energy of all the conversions you can get. I use one on my 1700 XFlow; 6,500+ most gears and has never missed even on dyno runs. I have a petronix on my RS2000 and it works well. I too got mine from the US.

Used these devices back in the day.
My 2 cents: The plug doesn't know where its getting its spark from. So long as the dwell and timing are properly set. Contact breakers work well enough. A bigger spark would be made from something like an Accell Super Coil with a standard breaker-condenser setup. |
