I have seen a few IT questions pop up from time to time and was thinking maybe an IT thread would be a good idea. We have members with quite a range of IT experience and I thing it would be a valuable resource for all members.
I have a small home IT buisness and run 2 web servers so I obviously have an interest in this area. I know there are many IT forums but I am thinking of this as a resource where members can get advice on sloving problems they may have. any feedback would be appreciated

I think a sticky in the Advice Central section would be beneficial, then it's there if anyone has any issues...

I think that's what Whirlpool is for. Probably better off directing people there if they are after serious help, otherwise I think Advice Central is good enough.
It is a car forum after all

Not a bad idea, however I like Damo's idea of a "Geek" section as it's a bit more encompassing than just "IT"

Sub section under advice central would be good. Don't know if it can be branched off like that, but there are a lot of PC query threads popping up.

Normally I'd just say off to Whirlpool but at least here you can get an answer without "ZOMG YOU DON'T HAVE 203092509 POSTS SO STFU AND RTFM NOOB"

I like this idea as well.
whirlpool is ok, but,, most people here (well maybe just me lol) dont have a lot of lot of knowledge when it it comes down to `pc fixums`, We all love our fords but put a pc there ? lol, maybe a site along the lines of "pc central" between the pub and the bar ? Having stuff explained by likeminded people instead of geeks that use way to big words for `mr average` would be a big win

Definitely a sub forum off Advice Central. Basically it's people asking for advice on PC hardware and software. It's not a big enough area to warrant its own forum, especially here.
I would also group smartphones in this area too. As for personal experience with PCs, I've been mucking round with PCs since the Commodore 64 and currently work in software support for a global real estate company. Other experience I have is level 2 & 3 helpdesk so I can help with a broad range of problems people may have.

Call it "Nerd Cafe"
Seriously though, I think it's a great idea. Plenty of IT folk here, just another strength to FFAU. This place will be a one stop shop soon.

I'm all for an IT Section also.... Would make it easier for other users on AFF to find an area that will provide answers if they need them

Yeah Im a network admin, last thing I wanna do when I get home is fix other peoples ******. 99% of the time youll find something through googling an error message.
That being said, I would still help out other forum members and give advice where possible EDIT: I also object to the section being called the Geek corner or something like that. I am the IT guy during the day at work and Im not a Geek. You dont see people like me on beauty and the geek |

And for those who need it. Some definitions... geekNoun/gēk/ 1. An unfashionable or socially inept person. 2. A person with an eccentric devotion to a particular interest: "a computer geek". nerdNoun/nərd/ 1. A foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious: "one of those nerds who never asked a girl to dance". 2. An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession. Although I work with computers all day, every day and use them at home all the time... I don't think I can fit myself into either of those definitions.
