Default 09 LV TDCI EGR Valve Removal?

hey guys

Just interested to see if anyone has blanked their egr valve on tdci focus?

I am pretty sure the manifold / egr valve is full of soot as anytime I accelerate I get clouds of black smoke.

Thinking of blanking it off completely? Would like some thoughts on this as some people have stated that it could wreck the turbo.

will I get the warning light if I do this?

Cheers

Smoke is more likely the injectors with the fuel not being well burnt on hard acceleration

Diesels are supposed to emit black smoke under acceleration, it's normal.

Big black clouds of smoke? Mine soots a bit under 75%+ throttle.

Have you tried a different brand of diesel?

The EGR recirculates some exhaust gasses back into the inlet manifold, but I doubt it would cause excessive black smoke even with a build up of grime and crap, worst case scenario if you wanted you could pull the inlet manifold off and inspect it, clean it out and see if it still does it.

I reckon if you block the EGR system it will bring up an engine light on the dash. Usually its called a EGR blanking plate.

The inlet manifold apparently is a down right pain in the *** to do, they quoted me $600 in labour at Ford to take it off when my car was in for warranty work, reason being apparently its a pain in the *** on these cars.

So you might want to budget a weekend to check it out and clean it up if need be.

Do you do short city stop start driving or country miles. If city take it for a nice big drive to literally blow off smoke. I have heard this heslps Trritory diesels but unsure with focus as Terri has different motor.
