Going back years obviously you could not own all the cars released at a point in time.. so what cars interested you back in the day that for whatever reason you didnt get the chance to own one.. also unlikely to never own one in the future as you have moved on with the times
hopefully everyone doesnt respond with GTHO for obvious reasons.. but think of other cars.. heres a few I wish i had owned at a point in time 1. Holden VL commodore turbo.. always loved them but never got to own one. Realistically too old to buy them now and modern cars are better. 2. Mitsubishi 3000GT.. the original barbi car. Twin turbo 4wd 4ws.. they were awesome when released. Wish id owned one. Again wouldnt buy today as parts couldnt be found. 3. Holden VL walkinshaw group A, batmobile. Almost bought one back in the day but bought a newer car instead. Regret not buying. 4. Hsv vr/vs GTS stroker 5.7.. they were the big daddy back then with their stonking 215kw. These days the performance is nothing special. but these cars passed me by and I didnt get to own. what cars do you wish you once owned?? |

Besides the obvious ones I would have loved a 5.6 TE/TS50 in manual

Other than the obvious ones, an Australian-Delivered DC2 Integra Type R with 90,000km on it in 2006 was the last really good one I missed.
Oh, and a VK SS Group 3 that some dude down the road was selling for $11,000 in about 2002. |

Two cars I almost bought and wished I had were:
Immaculate original LC GTR Torana - $11,990 Chrysler Centura with a 265 Hemi 4 speed - I think it was around 5 or $6,000 |

When I was looking at buying my first car I found a pretty mint burnt orange Mk2 Escort RS2000 2 Door, with a nice turbo pinto. Drove it, it went pretty hard, and parents said no way :(
So I got a EA Ghia on LPG..LOL..worst automotive decision ever!

The only car i wanted as a teen was a XA-XC hardtop. Ended up getting an XC 4 door instead. I still want a hardtop, but will probably never own one now.
I also really wanted a Lambhorghini Countach..... now not so much.

When shopping for my first car, Toranas were about twice the price of Gemini's.
So I knocked back a $4000 SLR5000 for a $2000 TE Gemini. Damn it. Power to weight I wasn't allowed to drive it but I should have risked it.

Other than that a 6 pack 'Hemi' Charger (I had Torana's instead, LJ & UC) A Kombi. A Panel van, given my inclinations back then probably a Holden HQ, HJ, HX variety. Maybe a 2nd Generation (bug eye) WRX STi. I've got a thing for AWD and turbos So I guess I should have upgraded to a TTG or F6X too but haven't.

Tried many years ago to buy what I believed was my dream car but failed
to get finance, was a genuine XB GTHO Panel van. Yes Panel van. Yes was genuine factory 351, 4 speed with all the GTHO paint and stripes and decals plates etc. Was blue with matching colour blue seat insert trims. Looked a dream but was not to be. Only van GTHO I have ever seen. Did have second best, 1975 ZH Fairlane with 351, FMX auto, 9 inch limited slip diff and 4 barrel holly and closed chamber heads. It hauled. |

I'll bet you're kicking yourself for not hanging onto that rare pre-production '75 ZH as well. The rest of us had to wait till '76 to own one of those babies! Oh dear . . . Last edited by ozpacman; 04-06-2014 at 07:12 PM. |

In days gone by, my dream was to own a big V8. The mystique and sound of these 'beasts' were something to behold, but conservative commonsense always got the best of me.
Once I turned 60, I decided enough was enough. I now have three 'beasts', and I enjoy each for different reasons:

Same as Simon Varley's post, insurance cost in London during late 80s meant I couldn't buy my dads 67 Plymouth Barracuda with Hemi. Ended up with a 73 Vauxhall Viva! Never even got to drive it on the road as he sold it when it was clear I couldn't afford over 3 grand a year in insurance.

Should have bought Integra DC2/5 Type R instead of my new WS Fiesta in 2009, new car smell isn't worth it, especially when you were 17 lol.

Nearly bought an ex work mates Xb gun metal Grey coupe that had gt specs...would be around 14 years ago maybe.
Had only been a casual employee for about 6 months and the bank laughed at me. He wanted ten but said I could have it for nine Sigh.

Back in March 2002, shopping around for a new car, Harrigan Ford had a Series II AU XR8 sitting amongst all the Series III cars, just gathering dust. One of the latter day XR8's with the 220kw motor. The deal was $42K plus my EA S pack. So, the salesman was having a go.
The minister for finance reckoned we could afford it. I reckoned we could'nt. Finished up buying a used Series I XR6.Which was a great car and served us well. Now, whenever I see a Series II XR8, I think to myself: I should've listened to the wife.....

I'm very much an old school guy car wise but one decision I made in 2004 still haunts me.
I test drove a very clean very low km AU3 Pursuit 250 Ute, Auto, Black with hardlid. Loved it and could have afforded it. Unfortunately for me I thought about it too much, got colt feet and conservative thinking kicked in. Ended up with a BA XR6 Sedan. And these were pre-wife days too!!! I did make up for it by buying my Coupe not long afterwards but I could have had both!! Moral of the story - don't over think it. You see and drive a car that makes your loins tingle, just buy the bloody thing. PS - I did pass up on Cobra #009 back in the '80's. D'oh.

I've always been a huge fan of the VX Clubsport R8's, don't know why - guess they were just a cool car when I was 10 and it's stuck for 12 years. Same as the V2 GTS.
They've past their prime though IMO, most are rough by now, and no why I'd trade owning my car for one now.
