Hey folks,
Trying to do a REVs check for 4 door 79 Escort. This is the VIN number i found on the ID plate: VIN/CHASSIS: CK42WT82383R NEVDIS has responded with no vehicle information for this serial number. This is possibly due to an error in the serial number you entered." As you can see, the VIN number I've entered is 12 characters long. Can someone kindly advise if the VIN I've entered looks correct? Going by NEVDIS response, it appears that what I have entered is incorrect? Thanks all! |

When was the last time the car was registered, I had trouble a few weeks ago getting rego on my MK2 Cortina, Its VIN was no longer on the system, because it had not been registered for decades. Do you have proof of previous rego?

The number quoted, CK42WT82383R is NOT a VIN, but a body or chassis number, which can also be used as the engine number.
VINs were NOT introduced until 1981, worldwide and are ALWAYS 17 characters in length! The NEVDIS system didn't commence operating until 1st January 1989 and so it will not recognise a VIN that is NOT 17 characters in length. As for the chassis number (CK42WT82383R) above it simply says: C = Country of origin (Australia, as a Ford England affiliate) K = Assembly Plant (Homebush, NSW) 42 = Escort 4-door 'L' Sedan W = Year of manufacture (1979) T = Month of manufacture (August) 82383R = Production Sequence Number (Each vehicle was assigned the next available number regardless of the model or body style.) I hope that clears this up for you.

I spoke to Ford and they confirmed that Chassis number i gave them is correct and matches the factory production details for a 4 door 79 Ford RS2000 Escort.
I've purchased the car, however, it needs a fair bit of work before i can even think about getting it rego'd. But going by the NSW RMS website, all I should need is a Bill of Sale (which i have) to get it rego'd in my name.. http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/regi...titlement.html Thanks for your replies! |

If you have any previous registration numbers or any other details, that will surely help also! Good luck, Terry
