Default See the future at Holden

Just saw an add from Holden, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM3NWSgMJtw)it seemed to put a positive spin on the fact they wont be making cars here, by showing the viewer all the new models that would be coming to show rooms soon. All things considered a very good add.
In contrast this is the latest add from Ford(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CPJMLGoUJ8). What are the marketing department at Ford thinking?
First an add from Holden that stars an 8 year old, then Ford brings us an add that could have been made by an 8 year old.
No wonder Ford is struggling, they have a great product but their marketing department can't articulate that to their potential customers.

I suppose that you've forgotten about the 'Guess Who' ads last year that showed Ford's future beyond Falcon then.

Yes I agree that was a good add, but like you said it was "last year". October last year actually when that add was released. Since then there have been numerous less than inspirational adds like this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7qo8y8GfY4
This.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7qo8y8GfY4
Or this.

Don't get me wrong I think Ford have some top cars available & I'm sure they have more coming, they just need to lift their game in the marketing department if they hope to compete.

There's a lot of new Opels and Chevvies coming to Holden dealerships over the next few year. V exciting. ;)

On topic, Holden's Comms people choose only the best creative partners and it shows. AJF's Holden ads are fantastic.

'Lets Go There' isn't of past Holden quality, crappy catch line and the whole reliance on kids seems to have carried over into this latest ad. They have some decent cars coming up and some already on the road, but trying to hook parents with little kids is very old school Holden, back in the days when they were king of the hill and a 'warm', 'welcomed' member of the Aussie family, it might've hit target. Instead we get a kid that shows no enthusiasm except in reading a script and pointing a finger. HSV ad's engage in the way Holdens used to, but they have smoke and exhaust notes to rely on (Evan Green would be rolling in his grave, if he's dead, is he?). All it reminds me of is that our kids won't HAVE Australian Holdens, that is all.

Above comments are in isolation and not comparing to Ford advertising, I don't remember a single ad since the BA sweeping through the hills which hit the mark smack on. Unforgettable especially in the market renaissance time of post AU (no offence AU owners I like em).

Well and truly buried along with the dreaded Phase 4 and everything that was good about the new range of local 70’s muscle cars.

So if Holden's marketing is so dam good why are they now sitting 4th in the market behind Toyota, Mazda and Hyundai and only just in front of Ford in 5th?

The fact that people are still buying anything in their range besides the Commodore is a marketing triumph.

Because Commodore aside, they have a notably inferior model line up to Ford and yet, month after month, year after year, they beat Ford in the sales race.

As for falling down the charts, yes Holden are, as are Ford as they head to niche players in the Australian market. Even on that gauge however Ford is performing worse than Holden.

And please none of that "Ford wants to be last, sell less make more" PR crap. That is some of the worst PR Ford and some so called fans ever spun, as Falcon started its death spiral several years ago. Its right next to the Ford PR excuse about "supply issues" whenever an auto journalist questions why an imported Ford has basically tanked in the market. They are where they are because the public put them there, not because they want to be there and yes Holden is heading in the same direction. Both brands would happily have boatloads of extra cars here within a few months if there was any customers to buy them.

The Koreans and Japanese now own the mainstream, volume sales market in Australia. Getting cranky at Holden is like being in a rage about which of the last two horses, actually came last in the race you just bet on. It just doesn't matter anymore as both lost the race.

If you like Fords enjoy them, what Holden is doing will come 2017, be as irrelevant as Ford is to most people now.

Because there is only so much lipstick you can put on a pig.
The pig is the rest of their range at the moment.

Except that Holden sales are slipping at a greater percentage year on year than Fords.

I haven't seen a good FoA ad since the one with the silver BA falcon. Holden won the sales comp for good reasons.

Good ads don't sell cars, a quality product offer at the right price does. Advertising cant change the fact that a falcodore is largely irrelevant to the Australian buying public.
I cant understand all the hate for the kids in holden ads, kids are inherently forward looking with focus on the future, isn't this where they want their brand awareness to go?

Couldn't agree more.

Hate is far too strong a word. Advertising is a cynical business, what can we present in our ad today to manipulate the watcher into buying into the concept or product we're trying to sell or engage in, comments made in response to that advertising reply to the ad, not the kids. The kids are cute and the cheapest way to buy in with parents. I don't know about other peoples young kids but mine only care about whats in front of them and what's for dinner. And it's an unfortunate truth that many kids today of that age don't care less about anything with wheels providing someone or something gets them from A to B. The spirit and engagement the kids reflect is more the generations now hunting for that random grey hair and beyond.

Ford Australia has never had a marketing department of any merit.
Yes there have been a couple of good ads but compared to Holden's efforts it's a non-event.
I remember when the FG was released it was Australia's biggest automotive secret.
And the Global head of Ford marketing came out here and declared WTF! and went back to USA muttering words like shambles, and throwing it in the too hard basket.
