I still can't get over the fact that they lost $10 billion in 2005. Another year or so and they're stuffed. Not good news for the lads and gals at Fisherman's Bend and Elizabeth.

Alot of that loss was due to Delphi going under (which they own). So this year woint be as bad or they might even turn it around and make a profit.

They had sold delphi but under the deal they still have to pay the workers all there intitlements.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the losses after one offs like Delphi were close to $US5 billion. That's a big loss in anyones language.

From what i understand what is killing the US Car behemoth's is the historical workers entitlements.. (as pointed out by Goldie) it is crushing their ability to compete... not to mention they have been slow to react to market trends also...

hey hey dont go there dude . historical worker entitlemants like the ones your father had. Made people actually be able to pay a house off one day and raise a family . not live with there parents for 35 years saving for a deposit and putting off kids.**edited**

Yeah - but then there is also the union grabbing as much as they can, forcing the companies into accepting their requirements through political and civil pressure, which often has little basis for the actual operating companies long term financial stability.

Agreed plus the US is competing with overseas suppliers, that are IMO more efficenct at building better quality cars and a cheaper price. The wages for US employee's would be more than that from elsewhere around the world, wouldnt be a problem if everyone in the US bought only US made vehicles but people tend to buy on price so they buy overseas stuff

I hope things work out well for the guys and gals in the states however

Not saying they are high or not, but there are other countries (ie Mexico) that pay less

time to get with the times lets work casual live at home in a small unit with all our brothers and sisters and thier families. by 10kgs of rice and 5 kgs of fish per week . i'm sick of ripping off the system .

Didn't say I agree with it, but thats whats happening, same stuff happens here. A lot of the VE commodore is being made overseas, why because its cheaper - nett result less jobs here, which is ironic because less jobs here mean fewer people can buy a VE commodore.
