What a crap day.....

Well today can be quite safely called the worst day of 2005 for me (so far).

Today I lost my job. And what shits me about it most is that my bosses didnt have the guts to tell me themselves - they got someone else to do it.

I went to see my employer (im on a contract basis to my old bosses, so they dont actually employ me but they use me) to have a bit of a talk about some things that were bothering me at work. In particular the way I wasnt being taught anything and didnt have anything to do. To cut a long story short they'd already seen my employer and told them they felt i wasnt productive enough and wanted to cancel the contract.Which I felt was a bit rough consdering it wasnt my fault. I know that sounds like I'm passing the blame, but without going into too much detail, lets just say that they're not as good teachers as they think they are - mainly cos they're never in the office.

So now I'm out on my **** with no job and 2 weeks pay, thats it. All because they were never there to teach me anything or show me how to do stuff, so of course i wouldnt be damn well doing much!

Anyway, just needed to get that off my chest out: .....

Anyone else been shafted like this before? I kind dont know what to do now.....

I had a similar experience when I was an apprentice ..... the bosses were slack ....... they didnt teach me a thing & expected me to work as a Senior Hairdresser without any assistance ..... not an easything I can tell you.

My car had broken down & I had to rely on taxis to get to & from work. One day the taxi never turned up so I did the right thing & rang work to explain ..... they said no problems......... I got to work & the bosses mother ran out & told the taxi to wait ......

I walked in & the bosses accountant was there ..... told me I was no longer required & the taxi was waiting ...... talk out deflating ........


Matey ... chin up ...... it will get better .... I have learnt that bosses like that arnt worth working for anyway ..... just think of karma ..... this has happened for a reason ....... you will find out shortly Im sure ;)

Yep, deflating is the right word for it. Lucky i have a great gf and family to help me get over it. And to put up with my crap! :hihi:

I'm sure it is happening for a reason but when it first actually hits you, it doesnt seem like it, seems like your world is falling apart! I was halfway towards another guitar which i really wanted and tried to get 3-4 times before this job came up, now im going to miss out on getting one again.

Still, its just another learning experience and I know that one day I'm going to look back at this and smile, then get back to work doing whatever it is that I end up doing.

I'm just looking at this thread thinking "why did I post that?!" lol, I guess i just wanna have a whinge and type it all out.

I told my new supervisor today who thinks he is my manager what i think about him as he was trying to work out why I hate him so much.

The good thing I have at least is 18years behind me and 140% of my target for the year already

THe bottomline is to lose your job (for whatever reason) is a real kick in the nuts.. Just try and remember to better yourself and you'll forget all about it..

Maybe buy a REALLY REALLY BIG Detailing PAck and become a mobile car detailer...

Haha I hate washing my car sometimes, let alone other peoples all the time! Whole idea of working out what to stuff to buy is to learn how to do a better job so i dont have to do it as often!:hihi:

sounds like my work place. its the way we communicate. everyone thinks everyone else is joking but usually im not.

I probably could get somewhere with it but I think I'm just better off cutting my losses and moving on. I still have some things at my office so I'm going to go pick them up tomorrow, and im not looking forward to it.

Hillis is an option - when i left they said i could come back anytime but i think i might try and broaden my horizons so to speak a bit first. I mean, it was a great job but there's not much more you can do in carparts other than sell them.

Why not given the opprunity work out what it you really would like to do and just become bloody good at.

To many people work in jobs they don't like, others have jobs that feel like a hobby to them because they enjoy it.

Shitty news dude.

I had a similar case where I was made redundant coz apparentlty I wasn't performing in my department (management) yet I had no warning of what I wasn't doing until the last minute when they made their decision. It sucks hard.

Anyway, make the most of it and find something that you really wanna do....sometimes these things happen for a reason.

I was working for the DOE, had a good job, did all the work handed to me and when it came to christmas wished everyone a happy holiday. Was told "Have a good chrissie, and we will give you a call at the start of the next term to give you your hours"

I am sorry to hear of your job loss. I hate it when that happens.

I once worked as the only office staff member at a very small company. The boss used an Access datatbase (extremely unreliable) for all his accounts and when invoices would disappear, or print even though they had been paid, I copped the blame. I was sacked... so humiliating!

Also I used to work for Wonderland Sydney and I had heard slight whispers of their demise... and the bosses sucked the big one too. So before they had a chance to sack me (I could feel it coming), I just said goodbye and walked out one day, and went on to retrain as my own boss.

ANYWAY! Now it may be that this is the perfect opportunity to either a) retrain and/or b) go in a brand new direction. Think of it in a positive light and it'll be a bit of stress off those shoulders.

A lot of people have things like this happen, but you move on & get stronger from it.

I lost a job due to the company that I'd worked for for 17 years, going belly up in May 2002. At the time my wife was 6.5 months pregnant with our first child and developed severe pre-eclampsia and our son was delivered by
c-section 9 weeks early on July 4. I did some cash work, but trying to pay
a mortgage, bills and doctors fees got on top of me. Also found out that 16 weeks of long service & holiday entitlements that were suppossed to be in a trust account, were in fact not. This account worth about $450k collectively had been raided by the 3 directors prior to our demise. I always wondered where the directors new BMW's came from.

Anyway I found work in the same industry through some friendly contacts - more money, better company, better job. And thanks to Little Johnny's GEARS Scheme I got all my entitlements plus an 8 week redundancy ( albeit 9 months afterwards).

Don't worry too much.... you'll bounce back.

Most important for you is that you've got good support from your family and GF. I don't think it'll be long before you're on the path to success.

hey I am there right now too and its just a normal part of business life these days. In my job you are only as good as your last sale and there is no loyalty given by employers. it puts a dent in mortagage payments and car mod plans go out the window but life is short just get out and enjoy it as best you can.

I just thought well at least I am not in a Bali jail like ms Corby.

Something will come up and it gives you a chance to choose your next employer and job carefully.

i've been sacked twice. for not taking shit . ican tell you youwont look back and smile.but your heart wont stop beating and it was only a job . just let your life take youwhere it takes you dude if you want a job you will get one. if they sacked you inappropriately it will come back on them it always does. hope for a better job next time and it will probably happen .

Sorry to hear that mate, thats really rough. Its such a shame that employees and workers these days often get treated that way and in this day and age, it really is tough without cash coming in on a regular basis.

I guess all you can do is try and think positive and look ahead. Often what seems like a very bad situation can actually be a blessing in disguise. Perhaps you will sit and think, get a new idea and run with that, and it might be the best thing you ever do - and one day you can go back to your old boss and show him what youve done and tell him where he could stick his job!

Many times Ive been in bad situations, but most of us work better under pressure and I know I did. Bad things make you re-assess your life and bring about ideas that you might not have considered before, like going on to further study in some area that interests you, or taking a whole new path with a job in a new field.

Try and look at it as though it is actually an opportunity (in disguise perhaps) and see what you can make of it. Consider things like study (if cash would allow) or an apprenticeship or even volunteer work in an area you would enjoy which would give you useful experience. Perhaps it will make you sit down and really think about what you want out of life - not just for the next year or two, but really long term... and then work out how to do it.

It all sounds so easy, I know, when people say this kind of thing, but really, this sort of thing does make you tougher, and it makes you think outside the square with your life, and have a fresh look at things is never a bad thing.

I think what really annoys and insults me most about this whole thing is that they didn't even give me the chance to face some of their accusations, and then to top it off they didn't have the guts to tell me. I went to my training officer (who does not work for my ex-bosses) asking for some things to change (or at least see if it was possible), and she had the unpleasant job (i could see she didnt want to do it) of telling me i was no longer required. Signed the forms and that's the end, all in the space of about 45 minutes.

In all honesty (and this will sound very up myself, but given the situation I think it's about right) I think they used the fact that they knew i was unhappy with my job to end a bad idea. They went out on a limb to employ me, I left a secure, full time job to take up their offer and when they found it didnt work (because they had no work for me, i was wasting my time there and they had to pay me to do it), they wanted to cut things off. Thats why I think it was so quick and harsh.

Anyway, time to move on and succeed in whatever i end up doing now.

I wrote a letter to them last night just addressing some of the issues that were raised and telling my side of things, but I'm unsure if I'll send it to them, at least not without editing it. I'd like them to know just how I feel and more importantly I think they need to realise that there are some serious problems within their business.

I can quite easily recommend you DON'T buy your Kitchen from Unique Kitchens in Wagga Wagga, or Ezy-As DIY Kitchens in the ACT (they're owned by them). Not because I'm a disgruntled employee out to hurt them, but because they're not a good company to deal with and they will take a lot of your money.

Time to go looking for a new job!

Mate, life's got its ups and downs, and this is obviously a low point in your life. It may be hard as hell accepting what happened, but YOU WILL move on to bigger and better things. Good luck in whatever happens from here on, and hope you find a job you will feel good doing. And at least you now have something extra to add to the work experience section of your resume, even if it was for a short period of time.

I'm in a similar position but I am permanent. I work for a division of the state gov't (DHS). I'm supernumary (spelling?) at the moment. The workplace I was at closed on the 26th March. I went of on stress leave which they declined the pricks! I basically don't have the staff there helping me out on what I should be doing. They are breaking quite a few policies and procedures. I don't want to rock the boat being temporary there. I've just gone with the flow but get bitched about behind my back. They don't approach you if they have an issue. They are gutless and know I'm more qualified than them. I've been employed for a longer period of time (in my 10th year).

I'm just emailed my management stating I wouldn't mind being trained up as a supervisor. A small minor pay increase ($80pf) but it's better than being bitched about because they don't want me to help yet say I do nothing.

I managed to do some of the supervisors book work that she couldn't do in 3 hours in 1/2 hour rofl.

Can't wait to hear their reply about me being trained up

Have you looked into some of the group apprenticehip schemes? At least you are placed with a company and not employed by them so if things go sour you can transfer to another employer. If I had my time over I'd seriously look at the building trades or maybe an electrical apprenticeship, the money's shit for the first few years but there's plenty of work once you are qualified.
I wish you all the best, I'm up to 3 redundancies now, every time I've got a better job afterwards, one computer company sacked me by fax as they decided that it was too far to drive to Dubbo to sack one employee.
