Default Looters, just shoot the scum.

I watched the news tonight and saw the story on looters in the flood affected area's. What kind of filth would do this kind of thing. I hope they get some frontier justice served out on them.

Thats the sort of crap that goes on in America. Only a matter of time before morons did the same thing they do when there are natural disasters.

It goes on everywhere and always has since the dawn of time, thats just how some people are,not much you can do about it unless you can change human nature.
And it will probably only get worse with this "$$$$$ is king" and "I want it now" society we live in...

That it was supposedly somewhat organised, yes. I would have thought there was a bit more decency left in this country.

You have to expect the occasional drop kick looting though.

We were just talking about this the other day,and was happy to see none of this(looting) sort of thing happening here and how civilized Australia is/was compared to America when it comes to tragedy's such as these but we copied that idea too now....................Yes they are scum,I hope they get what they deserve.
We are spiraling down the same path as the US of A has.

lol @ Australians are civilized!
Were just as bad as every other race out there. This is normal and it always happens no matter how 'civilized' the country is.

i dont agree with looting one back, but judge each case on its merit, the newcastle one was nothing like the one it the usa,new orleans etc, where there goverement didnt even care that much until it became news headlines around the world, they had nothing for more nearly a week ,then started to get limited help, some men looted just to get clothes, heaters, food, blankets and MILK for there babies!! can you imagine being in that situation yopur self for weeks?i was involved in the newcastle floods,we had no power for three days,no phone and mobile wouldnt work and you could not charge it anyway,it was cold ,dark and tough and we only had flooding in the shed!and trees down everywhere, some [people had it so much worse than us,I dont agree with looting ,,and especially when people take dvds, tvs, stereos etc but when you consider how bad it was in the u.s.a. makes you think!!!

Amazing, some people here reckon you can race your car on a public street at night on P plates in a suburban area and think thats OK and should get a small fine, not jail, and someone does some looting and its," shoot 'em".
Don't get me wrong, I agree, but I'd rather hang 'em.

The thing that makes Australia different from America is that some people here still have a sense of decency. When the picutres of the looters hit the paper, ala Melbourne G20 riots, there will be many calls to CrimeStoppers to sort it out. At least one would hope this is the case...

id no doubt shoot them myself as well....BUT you have to think what sort of desperation is going on for the need to loot....theres always motive or reason behind every action.... best example is hurricane katrina...lets put it this way, family lost house and everything, no aid, no food, nothing, loots a shop just to survive......

does it make him a criminal or a survivor? does it mean your just as bad by doing nothing to help and wishing him dead?

if its just the oppurtunistic thieves then yes fire away!

From what I saw on telly, one guy had his tools knocked off and appliances from his house, and harvey Norman had a whole lot of iPods knocked off. These aren't essential items to keep yourself going, this is the work of scum looking to cash in on others misery.
A public whipping would do the job.

Why is this a surprise to people? And why do people associate looting with the US?

When a small part of Traralgon (regional town 200km east of Melbourne) flooded in 1993, looters were out the next day breaking into peoples' homes in the flood zone while they the homeowners were temporarily accommodated elsewhere.

Whether its a surprise to people or not, this is still wrong! Its taking advantage of those who have been misfortunate for this to happen to them. Bet they wouldn't like it if the tables had turned!

I don't disagree with you, it is wrong. But it's nothing new or radical, it's been happening ever since it was invented in Frankston in colonial times before Centrelink was estalished, where it was mistaken at the time as some form of abstractly choreographed contemporary dance act.

I spose the LV Busline Moe-Traralgon route would've had a spike in commuters that day (and fare dodgers) :P Sif they had cars to get to Traralgon!
