Default New Mondeo XR5 Turbo

From Australian Car Advice:

Quote:
Our Photographer has caught the upcoming Ford Mondeo XR5 Turbo out and about.

http://www.caradvice.com.au/6520/for...rbo-spy-shots/

This should mean the Volvo five-cylinder turbo engine will power this car and it appears to be through a 6-speed manual gearbox. The wheels are similar to those used in the Orion prototypes and the interior looks pretty nice with a Sony head unit and stereo. More soon…
Looks nice!

Yeah i guess cos historically they're using the numeric figure as the number of cylinders.

It works if you read it as "Fiesta XR4, Mondeo XR5 Turbo, Focus XR5 Turbo, Falcon XR6 Turbo"

I believe the car is FWD, but it's no great loss for "normal" (somewhat-involved and not-involved) drivers IMHO

Looks even better in the flesh! Wonder how it will be priced against an XR6 turbo though.

If it was RWD it would be like a modern cortina for size.

Mondeo is on it's own platform, and the new 2008 mazda6 is based off it, along with other spin-off's such as the S-Max (not the other way around)

Holden doesn't think so...(Link from XR5 page)
http://www.caradvice.com.au/2689/hol...e-ford-mondeo/
Quote:
Holden are still a little bitter about the negative publicity the Holden Epica has caused, so to attract some attention elsewhere, they have taken a stab at Ford and the new Ford Mondeo. Holden believes the new Mondeo is doomed to failure due to its high price.

At the launch of the Epica, which incidentally is replacing the the European (Opel-built) Vectra, a move which Ford has still refused todo. Holden’s marketing director John Elsworth was a little burnt when discussing the new Mondeo

“We tested the market with an expensive mid-sized model and it didn’t work”.

Holden believes that Australian’s are not willing to pay for quality European cars, and would much rather prefer to buy the cheaper Korean made alternative, whilst this may be true, it doesn’t mean the Ford Mondeo will be a flop.

Expect more news on the Ford Mondeo in the upcoming days, there has been little word from Ford regarding the pricing or Australian specifications for the Mondeo, however we do know it will land sometime in October.

I agree!
This is probably the BEST move Ford has made for some time in my opinion.
The market is full of these mid sized/under powered things, and by Ford releasing something that looks as good as this does and hopefully with as much go as show, the sales are gonna be through the roof.

And so it should, from everything I have read and seen about this car it is miles ahead of any Falcon or Commodore. The only weakness i see is the fact it is FWD. Most people don't care about this though.
Ford did a good thing bringing this car back and they should market it right. The falcon just isn't up to scratch and sales are showing that. They need to give the other cars from Europe the marketing power, get their name out there.

Stealing sales from Falcon & Commodore shouldn't be an issue as they are not selling!
Plus supply of the New Mondeo will be very limited compared to the bigger Aussie made cars.
They wont call it a XR5,yes it does have the same engine but will probably be called a GHIA
Good news is that the Deisel model which has a fantastic 2.5 common rail turbo Deisel will be available with a auto option.
BTW they are all FWD.
Launch date is set for the Sydney Motorshow.

That's interesting, I saw one last week on Ross Street in Forest Lodge (Glebe), Sydney. Not sure which one it was though, it had no badges! Was in front of an AU, wheelbase doesn't look much shorter though! I thought it was an Orion at first, but it was too small. To the naked eye, it was about 30cm shorter wheelbase (most of looked like bonnet and bootspace) than the AU, about maybe 40cm skinnier (vs the AU it was in front of).... This was to the naked eye though, I could be wrong. Looked the goods though! Very sleek and European!

I thought I read somewhere that the new Mondeo is actually almost identical to the Orion in terms of cabin size. There may even be some cabin dimensions that are larger on Mondeo than Orion.

The smaller dimensions will be the overhang over the front and rear wheels I think? Bit like what Toyota have done with the Camry and Aurion. (But the Fords don't actually share the same cabin sheet metal).

Yeah that's what I meant by wheelbase... Front to tail... Was the easiest way to describe what I meant.... It was definitely visibly smaller than the AU.

Judging by the magazine reviews and ratings from Europe it is actually quite roomy in the rear.

Also it WILL be front wheel drive. I have a copy of the danish brochure which lists all the configurations as well as the duratech 2.5L 5cyl Turbo with a 6spd manual.

Power:162kw
0-100: 7.5seconds
Top Speed: 245km/h

So i personally dont see any reason why it wouldnt be the XR5T Mondeo (or visa versa)
But the xr6 ute and sedan are still falcons. XR5s are two different models.

Who knows if the badges are their to fool the media or if they are actually having 2 models with that name. I wouldn't complain having either of them ;).

It may or may not be called the XR5T. But im pretty sure it will. The only other name it could be is the titanium which is meant to be the GHIA equivelent or higher.

And i dont know why it wouldnt be an XR5T Mondeo? just cause the badge has already been used on something else.

There fairly big cars, like a VT or something by the looks of the photo's. Holden are always taking a stab, every ad they screen takes a stab at an other manufacturer. The Epica is laughable compared 2 the Mondeo, they better sell hard to rub salt into Holdens' wounds.

Overall length is 4844mm for the sedan and 4778mm for the five door, wheelbase is 2850mm, more wheelbase and wider than a BF Falcon.
