I watched Wild Hogs tonight and whilst I thought it was funny ( I did chuckle) it was by no means the best movie I have ever seen. It got me thinking...What is the best movie ever made?

Here's some of my favourites... The Blues Brothers - the original one, still makes me laugh. Unforgiven - directed by Clint Eastwood, makes ya think. 2001 Space Odyssey - Kubrick was a legendary filmmaker... Bullitt - because it had a Mustang GT390 in it

This is something that will never be agreed on as different people look for different things in films.
While people thought, "A Beautiful Mind" was a great film, I thought it was a film for the artist, so it bored the living poopstick out of me. This year, the only two films I have wanted to see are Rush Hour 3 and Harry Potter 5, which I have both seen. I know these are not great films from an "artistic" point of view, but I went with the view to enjoy them, regardless what the "experts" think. But of the better films ever, LOTRs was WAY above my expectations I must admit, considering it is considered one of the best novels ever written, so it carried a lot of weight of expectation. Unlike so many, it delivered a top trilogy of films. I enjoyed Star Wars IV-VI as the story not only is interesting in its own little way, but it introduced many new special effects which had not been used before. I think I-III are poo. I like Aussie films too...so The Castle and Crackerjack are two that I enjoy. I recently watched "They're a weird mob" and thought that was ok as well. However, my favourite film is "Trading Places" as it had an excellent cast consisting of Ralph Bellamy, Don Ameche, Denholm Elliot, Dan Akroyd, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as a few others. The film had a point, had laughs, had low-brow elements and at the centre, a socio-psycho-scientific hypothesis which was tested. I really enjoyed this film. BUT what I like does not necessarily constitute the best (no cheap shots here please)...just like choosing the best Falcon model ever. Everybody has their preferences and their arguments for and against each model.

Second vote for Forrest Gump, that was an awesome movie.
Also these are also good, but not as good. Snatch. Robin Hood, Men in tights. The Matrix. (The first one, the next two sucked) Supertroopers. Saving Private Ryan. The Usual Suspects I think a good movie is one you can watch years after it was made and still think it was fantastic, e.g: Movies like The Fast and the Furious and The Real Cancun were good at the time but you look back now and say that its not so special

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is awesome, Kill Bill (esp #2), Fight Club (I didn't pick the ending - which put such a different spin on it I went and saw it again the next day). Special mentions also to Shawshank Redemption, Blues Brothers and the Back to the Future trilogy. OK - that's more than 1 best movie ever made - but it's hard to pick just one. |

Preferred Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels over Snatch, though Snatch was excellent too. Chopper - masterpiece. Could never pick a an alltime favorite, would depend on what my mood was that day. Notables; Matrixs, Terminators, LOTRs, My favorite today; Kill Bills. |
