Anyone seen this or own one? Basically it's just a stock XT, with the 5.4L engine, and they've toned the kw power down but torque is still the same as the XR8. It costs the exact same price as the xr8, so who would buy a stock, ugly, XT falcon with a 5.4 making 230kw, when they can get the hot xr8 which makes 260 for the same price? I emailed redbook.com.au and they reckon that it's been on fords price list for years.

They were a slow seller. I think Ford was selling a massive 10 a month, and that was before the Fairlane was canned.

I don't know about "BOSS 230". I thought it was called the "Barra 230"-the 3 Valve SOHC V8 known as the "Exporer" in America.
Unless a dealer had done one up?? |

Yes it's not a Quad cam V8 it's a SOHC 3 valve V8, same engine used in the F150.
It also makes less toque than the "Boss 260" They do have the same displacement.

One thing which has really puzzled me is the first 3valve's made 220kW@4750rpm and the newer "Barra 230" made 230kW@5350rpm, which is 100rpm higher than the XR8's peak power of 260kW@5250rpm. Very strange if you ask me....

I think part of the upgrade to the Barra 230 was dual knock sensors, so maybe it always had that much in it just that Ford didn't want to push the tune on the 220 to be safe.

I think the later 230 kw engines had a better exhaust [i could be wrong though] & thats were the better power came from..Plus the knock sensors were altered.. The exhaust is the bigest killer on the 220/230 motor. Then its the 5200rpm rev limit/tune. Fix those two items alone & you'll gain over 30kw & the huge torque the 3V make's gets even better!!

It'll be the Barra 220 (for BA) and Barra 230 from BF onwards. It's the 5.4L 3-valve engine.
From Redbook: Engine Size 5408cc (5.4) No. Cylinders 8 Engine Configuration V60 Cam Overhead Cam Valves/Cylinder 3

See my signature.
And they weren't/aren't the same price an an XR8. Its about a $4000 or $5000 option or something. So 37000 + 5000 does not make an XR8.

V60??? What so the Barra230 is a 60 degree Vee?? Geez shows how much I know. I assumed all V8's were 90 degrees bar the Yamaha V8 which was based on a Duratec V6 anyway. What's the firing order?? |

Just having a look at the Ford site, the 3V isn't an engine option anymore, yet they have still left in little details like the 6spd auto being standard on the 3V and the 3V having the performance brakes lol.
