Seriously, this is the ford forums. You are about to get told is 136 different ways to buy an XR6. Which you should, they are a fine car and brilliant value for money. I had a BA XL (V8) 2 years no dramas lovely car. Relatively cheap to buy and Cheap to run. Get gas if the budgets tight. You can't go wrong just shop for the best car you can afford. There are some super deals on the new ones and that only makes the used cheaper.

DO NOT buy a jap ute (The includes courier) they are work utes (and good at it). You want and all-rounder. Buy the Falcon. A BF2 Six speed auto is best, an AU1 with 250,000 km's is out there somewhere. Your budget will set where you land from there.

the problem with a AU/BA ute is you cant fit bikes in and close the tailgate.

I was in the same position as you, wanting exactly what you want.

I went up to the ford dealer and drove a BA XL Ute - Blank canvas - and took it away with me the day after.

It is 2004 factory gas, 27,000k's, imaculate, new towbar and hardcover, 3 years warranty, 1 year rego. for $20k with a $500 trade in.

You can get a 2005-6 for about 4 grand more with the same amount of k's on petrol.

I love it, its cheapish to run, plenty of go, better than my old car and i can chuck my bike in the back.

I could have bought a 90,000k car for 6 grand less, but you will find with all of the utes, is that they are owned by tradies and they are all bashed to pieces.

Who cares if you cant fit them in without putting the tailgate up? Most utes these days wont fit a bike in the back. and if you really need to put it up then put the bike diagonal.

I also went for a drive in an XR8 AUII with 11,000k's and the BA shits all over it in terms of driveability and comfort. The AU didnt want to stop.
