It's to indicate that your seatbelt isn't on. It drives me insane too. Can't get Ford to turn it off, because it's a legal thing. I asked already :

But if someone knows how, apart from pulling the dash out and cutting off the speaker, I'd love to know too

Thanks, does that mean if I start the car with the seatbelt on it shouldnt beep?...Thats great....Im usually not in the habbit of starting the car with my seatbelt on but if it stops the beeping then Ill have to change my habbits.
I can understand why they wont turn it off as it probably is part of the points system in the NCAP safety ratings, probably worth an extra point or two for audible warning.

I don't think I've ever put my seatbelt on before I turned the car on . I think all cars need to have an audible warning that you don't have your seatbelt on now. By that I mean all new cars... I dunno. All I know is that it's bloody annoying. But sometimes it doesn't come on, even when I don't have my seatbelt on. Not even the symbol on the dash comes on. Don't get it used:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the seatbelt beep speaker is part of the instrument cluster, the same speaker that does the indicator ticking.

Put the driver's seat belt on and close the door - the car will not complain when you start it (tested on LT focus tdci).

Theres more than one way to skin a cat, so they say...It might be possible to disable the the switch in the seat, if it has one, or disable the switch in the seat belt connector??? Just thinking loud.

You don't have a seat buckle. What they are called is "pretenioners." They have an explosive charge in them to stop the slack in an accident. So I wouldn't be fiddling around with the wiring underneath in case you set it off. I have had a pretensioner go off in my hand. Not a pretty site. Side airbags is another fun part of my job too which i have seen go off....lucky not in my hand either

that may trigger an error on the car and it may not start.

Theres a reason why there are sensors and all this in the car.. its for your own safety no pleasure.

That sound is ultra annoying I know, but it's worth it putting your seatbelt on first just to shut it up.

Thank goodness you can turn the rest of the bongs off.

Oh that noise drives me utterly crazy as well, I have also noticed it does not go off sometimes even when I have not put my seatbelt on. I normally just hold down the belt button until it stops then put my belt on. Just cant get into the habit of getting in the car and putting the belt on first, putting on the belt allows the car to warm up a tad

same old broken record is playing here folks... just put on your seatbelt and you won't hear it. It's not hard.

That is fair enough - but some people have a legit reason for not wanting to put a seatbelt on each time.
I have a 150m long driveway and a gate I have to open and close manually...
To avoid the beeps, would involve me putting my seatbelt on 3 times!
I have noticed that you can shut it up by holding the release button in on the seatbelt buckle though...

Easier said than done. I start the car, then belt up. Works fine in the Fairmont, but in the Focus it results in 5 annoying beeps. The Focus one isn't a gentle beep like in a BA. Its obnoxious.

Mine only goes off at abt 15km/h speed. If it beeps immediately after you start the engine, u might wanna check with the dealer !?!?

This is seriously old this thread, but there is another way. Just hold down the red release button on the buckle. Hey presto!

A couple of suggestions: the beeper can be disabled on the Mondeo. Check the Mondeo forum for details - might be worth a try. Also, on the Mondeo the hazard warning sound overrides the seat belt beeper. So if you turn the hazards on before you start the car, you won't hear the seat belt warning. Very useful if you have a gate to open at the end of a driveway.

It shouldn't matter that you have to put your seat belt on 3 times as it will only beep about the seat belt when you start the car or if you put it into reverse. That's what happens with my Mk1 focus anyway.

Another way that may be possible could be to purchase a subscription for Ford Module Programming software:
http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...&menuIndex1=41

I haven't used the software so I'm not sure if you can disable it using it.

You need a compatible cable to use it too which is expensive. I have a Mongoose with FEPS already so I might get the software in the next few days and give it a go.

Our 2006 LS beeps 5 times when you start it up but our 2008 LT does not. When the LS was in for some warranty work at Strapp Ford earlier this year i asked them to turn it off but they said they couldn't.
