I woke up the other night with the following idea for a new tv show. If they can make shows like Big brother happen, surely they could make this happen. I’m sure if this was done right it could take some of the negative ‘hoon’ stereotype associated with car scene enthusiasts in Australia. It could help to educate people about the scene, and maybe make a clearer judgement on the people associated with the car scene in Australia.
Basically I think they could create a show that covers cruising ‘hotspots’ in capital cities, and other associated events with the car scene. This would give all the guys out there that ‘2 minutes of fame’ and bragging rights to say there car was on tv etc. I think if the show focused on a mix of old school muscle, and the new school jap/turbo/v8 scene it would be able to support a wide audience group. Remember there are a lot of older generation people sitting at home that would tune in to see some tough cars, and see whats happening around the country. I’m not sure what the legal requirements are for something like this, would it be enough for them to blur out number plates to not identify cars? Would they need to have release forms signed to use footage etc? The show could have an associated forum with it. They could use this a medium to detail where the next episode destination will be, this could give people a heads up and come out cruising that night and try to get themselves and their pride and joy on tv. It could also be used for a for sale section etc. Hopefully enough incentive to bring out some old skool cars that never get driven around. I’m sure there would be enough activity in Australia to keep the series going for quite some time. The show could cover car shows, and other special events like Summernats, Powercruise, EasterNats, V8 supercars events, Jamboree, Targa Tasmania, Sydney / Brisbane motor shows etc. It would give people a chance to see some of these events across the county that they aren’t fortunate enough to be able to attend. I like the Ignition series of dvd’s that come out every month, but these are really focused on the four banger scene, and the series is littered with advertising. (I know they need sponsers to make the series happen and it wouldn’t be possible without the revenue coming in from the sponsers). They could cover a different business each week like: Custom interior shops, Audio installers, Engine shops, and any other business associated with the automotive industry. Hopefully some big executive producer picks this thread up and makes it happen. I think a show like this would need to have support from one of the big networks to make it happen.

I reckon it would be successful. Heaps of people travel around Australia to different sort of motoring events, and usually end up stuck with a rental car at their destination, so they don't get to appreciate the cruizing scene the same as if they had their own car their.
A forum associated with the tv series would be a great place to sell or buy vehicles that have made an appearance. If somebody like 'unique cars', 'street machine' or 'Cruisin' magazine got behind this, i reckon it would be awesome. Get some good hosts for the show, and it would be a hit. The hosts and commentary on shows out there now is usually shocking.

Cruisin mag has its own show down here in melb on CH31,and for me its talent lies in its basic layed back {and quick and cheap to makestyle.I wouldn't think a commercial network wouldn't touch a show like this or the one you would pitch them.{my opinion only {too small a demographicBut at least they are out there making it,and obviously picking up invaluable experience along the way. So if you are really passionate about this you'll most likely have to go out and make it happen yourself, " MAKE IT AND THEY WILL COME" GOOD LUCK

The c word wasn't just about cars, they had a lot of topics.
Sure they did do a few car episodes, but then they also had episodes on the presenters (Dieter Kahsnitz) life story, the American fighter pilot's, and one on a russian? pianist. I think your series could work in the right place, but for it to work properly on free to air TV, it would need a comerical station, who would be relutant to pick this up, IMO. But you never know, float it to a few people/netwroks and see what you get. Cheers

you would have to focus on the cars & enthusiasts, and not on the shenanigans that no doubt would follow the cameras,
you would have people acting like tools in the back ground trying to get on tv, who are only there to cause trouble because they got a txt from their hoon mates who told them they could be on tv. if done right, it would be a hit, i would watch it, i know a lot of others who would too. |

Yes, we had a weakly show more or less covering what you state above, and it was pretty popular.
The same channel also aired few other moto-enthusiast shows dedicated exclusively to drag racing, modding (performance modding, audio and body) and more. Would love to see it here. btw, no matter how hard I try I just can't find channel 31

Great idea.
It wouldnt work, at least not in Victoria. A person who enjoys cars is a hoon. Hoons are a small demographic. Then again maybe people will watch because they hate the people, in the same way people watch Big Brother... |

Their are three shows like that here in Melbourne. There is Gasolene, Rodders life, Cruzin ( from Perth ). They all cover the Cruise scene as well as most of the car shows. Gasolene dose a lot of stuff from the Horse Power Factory.
One more good show wouldn't hurt. |

There's another show on Channel 31 called Gasolene I saw once about a month ago.
http://www.c31.org.au/shows/show.php?showid=272 http://mick-curson.blogspot.com/ I've only seen one episode but it was very well made, one of the best quality shows on C31 I've ever seen (not just because it's about cars but just well-made). They featured cars on dynos with before and after runs, explained what certain mods did, etc.
