Talking Need for Speed : Undercover

EA has released a sliver of new information on its latest instalment in the hugely popular Need for Speed series, Undercover.
EA notes that Need for Speed Undercover will take the franchise back to its roots, re-introducing break-neck cop chases, the world's hottest cars and spectacular highway battles.
The game is scheduled for release this holiday and will feature movie star Maggie Q (MI3, Die Hard 4.0) as the lead character in the "big-budget live-action sequences that propel the game's original story forward".
Need for Speed Undercover is being developed by Black Box and is scheduled for release in North America on November 18 and in Europe on November 21. The game will be available for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, DS, PSP and PC.

NFS is going Hollywood. The upcoming story-intensive game will have you playing as a wheelman, an undercover cop who infiltrates a car thievery ring to take the crime syndicate down from the inside. The game will star singer-songwriter/actress Christina Milian (one of the stars of Chud guilty pleasure Torque) and Maggie Q (MI:3, Live Free or Die Hard) amongst a larger cast. These full motion videos are being directed by Joseph Hodges, who's most famous for being the production designer for 24.

he thing that's immediately apparent is how they're trying to really make this a Hollywood production. No green screen nonsense here- it's real actors, real locations, and real cars. We saw a speech by the actor who portays the character you play as which gave a real good sense of the grittiness they're going for. It was apparently all improv, and very good at that. They're even making sure the videos have the same look and feel of the game. Course, it's way too early to tell how the game and videos will work together, but rest assured that besides this they're doing some other very interesting things with the series (finally!)

Maggie Q
Hope the movie's good, though to me the whole game franchise seems to be beating a dead horse.

The latest Need For Speed I have ever played is Most Wanted.

As far as I know, (unless I'm corrected) the first Need For Speed I played, Hot Pursuit you could change the time of the day, Hot Pursuit 2 was during the day, Underground 1 and 2 were set at night. Most Wanted was set during the day, Carbon was set during the night and Pro Street was set in the daytime.

I wonder if they would bring back the option where you could change the weather and time of the day. Perhaps in free race mode you after you've unlocked a race, you could chose what time of the day, the weather and a cops on or off option.

Ahh hot pursuit. i loved that one, used to spend hours and hours trying to do the most crazy jumps and crashes in my souped up 911, its funny how i like doing that in actual racing games(ie GT3/4, NFS etc) but no in saay Burnout or whatever

NFS - Hot Pursuit is great.
Usually play that when I'm in the mood for racing against others while they get chased down by the cops.

Also, NFS - Underground is pretty good. My car on it looks sweet as.

Hopefully this one will be awesome.

Still got the old NFS-SE here, in fact ive got every NFS bar 2.

Personally i think they all suck post Underground 1, except perhaps for most wanted which was OK. They need to go back to the roots racing exoctics heads up against the Police. HP2 was the last classic NFS (Plus it had T3 TS50, "oh yeah"), Porsche did have realistic handling, damage and a proper mod/career mode- so was pretty good as well, despite no cops.

I still dont get why they need all this FMV stuff, its a racing game geez, if i want to watch a movie about car theft, ill watch gone in 60 seconds, if i want to see hot chicks ill go to the beach or use the internets.

NFS games lose their novelty value after a few hours. Imo, NFS - "Most Wanted" was the best one to date.

I'll rent it first, if im still playing it the next day... i'll get the game.

IMO Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit = best NFS game ever.. i miss the classic PS1 days. Need for speed games just aren't the same anymore. Although i have some high hopes for the new one.

Agreed. I've still got it, and it's great fun. NFS4: High Stakes isn't that different, but I still prefer III better. As for the new one, it looks very promising. Hopefully it delivers on those promises, unlike Pro Street

Good they are taking a few steps backwards, the last few have been way over the top, the last one in particular was rediculous.

I got through Most Wanted in 2 days, Hot Pursuit 2 I have one race left.

I just couldn't be bothered with Carbon or Pro Street.

I'll probably check this one out, but as has been said the storylines and crud that gets in the way just gets annoying.

NFS died and should have been buried after NFS: HP2, before it went all try-hard with the whole doing up cars thing, NFS was about jumping in pre-setup car and racing while running away from cops, not doing up cars with body kits, engine modifications.

From NFS Underground, the series went under.

I stand by saying that NFSIII: Hot Persuit and NFS: Hot Persuit 2 still are and will always be the BEST games in the series, theres a new NFS game out every 5 minutes these days.

They put too much glitzy stuff in it. Which not only takes away from the game, but takes peoples attention away from how crap the game actually is.

NFS series failed when it got inspired by fast and furious.

And NFSIII HP owned. Loved how the cars would chirp 1/2nd.

That's High Stakes. It had the AU1 XR8, VTII SV99, and HRT Commodore as a bonus car.

Hot Pursuit had the EL GT, VT1 GTS and in a couple of levels you'd be chased by an EL cop car.

Agreed! I stopped buying NFS when it went all '2 Fast 2 Furious' (Aka GAY), I still play NFSII every now and then, and I almost cried the day I couldnt find my NFS Porsche Challenge.
