Unless you have a friend in the rego department there isn't much luck of finding it.

Unfortunately you wont have much luck. But then will you want to see it again? Every car I used to own I see later on and its looking in a sad state. Brakes your heart to see how someone else treats your previous pride 'n joy.

I'm actually trying to track it down to buy it back, I won't give the game away just yet because of the type of car it is but it's something sorta special.

Went to ring service tas today and it happens to be a public holiday doesn't it, now I have to wait till tomorrow!!!

No real easy way, unless you trade them into your local Ford deealer and they on sell it, thats how i get the details on my old cars (only the suburb, i dont really care where they live but interested to see if the cars stay local).

Seen my old Super Pursuit last week floating down the freeway...

that is very easy really i did it about 6 monthes ago trying to track down and old EA spack i sold about 5 years ago

Ring the dept of transport tell them your trying to chase down a car if you remember number plates or vin/ chassis numbers helps too ( i still had the orignal dealer paperwork. you send them the letter plus some money for me was $20 i think they forward the letter to the current registered owner and hopefully if your lucky the current owner contacts you back. Which in my car he did though he wrote the car off about 3 year ago.

Yeah i forgot
that's what we used to do with cars that hit our cabs but refused to give the driver their personal info
we'd just go down to the department of transport with the rego number and for a nominal fee we'd have every detail needed.

Well guys, made the first step in finding it today. Got hold of Service Tas and was transferred to Transport. I was told that I can request info on vehicles that I used to own. I need to put it writing and pay a fee of $12.80. So I faxed them today with my credit card details - just need to wait and hope now.

They didn't believe that it was possible for me to write in requesting the current owner to contact me though which is a bummer, mind you if I ring back and speak to someone else I'll probably get a different answer :

Advertise it in the local paper for sale, with a photo highlighting the rego plate, so its clear as day. Then eventually when he sees it, he'll call wanting to know why you're selling his car.

Ok guys, time to spill the beans. I received a call from the Registrar of motor vehicles today, they are able to release the info I have requested and I will receive it in writing next week. Now the car, 1975 Ford XB falcon 500 coupe, rego number DO6025. I've hit a snag though, the car is still registered in my name, the person I sold it to and then they on sold it have never transferred it into their name. This is gonna be a tough one me things.....

Sounds like you're going to get a letter with your own details on it..... which is probably why they're releasing the details.

Yep, but at least I have the rego number now and I will at least get the vehicle details VIN etc. Now I just need to contact the guy I sold it to originally, might send him a letter.

If the Car is still Registered in your name, why haven't you been recieving the renewals for it?

If its in your name still i would cancel the rego and when they go to pay it they will get a shock and have to track you down.
