Well its just about here. A complete overhall of club permits in vic and the changes are very good news for anyone with a car older than 25 years, have access to a club that has these available (many) and drive their cars 90 days a year (About twice a week!) 45 day passes are also available
The introduction is expected to be in the first half of next year and works on a log book system which you fill before you travel. Beats the hell out of paying for a full registration on something you bring out only from time to time. It covers replicas, modified, rods and classic cars ..... or anything that is 25 years plus. VIC ROADS REPORT THey are also asking for submissions into the scheme. VIC ROAD SITE FOR SUBMISSIONS

Prices seem to be $100 for rego, plus $10 per log book Plus about $35.00 for TAC ...... so thats $145 instead of $650.00 per year.

Just hope it doesn't have that silly rule like in S.A... Car's must be painted in 'original' colour..

Finally!!!! I've got an old 74 coupe (not a Ford unfortunately, although it does have a Ford horn button and a Mick Webb sticker on it) that is very near completion and will have to be club registered anyway.
The bonus is the general public will get to see more nice old warriors (some with competition mods!) on the road! Yippee! 90 days a year is every weekend, or the really nice Fridays, a beautiful chrisp day with very light traffic, date nights, etc, etc.

Brilliant! Thanks for posting. Will look forward to this coming in. Rego is the only thing stopping me from collecting more cars at the moment.

Thats great news for Vics, and about time they got around to doing it. Up here in Qld I am about to get my rego tomorrow and we can have any plate you want on club reg which I think is fantastic. Unless they came up close and look at your regosticker they would not know what sort of reg you have.

Looks Fantastic, I hope this is adopted in NSW where you are at the mercy of the club registrar which can be painful if you get a "club rego nazi"
90 days is heaps, especially if you have 2 or three cars, you can drive them everyday..... |

Excellent but 90 days is excessive. Like above I dont think many people with these cars would be driving them that much.
So you have to keep track of your k's?

That would be great if you could keep the custom plates.
I think they should allow custom plates and have a special club rego sticker in the window.

Why not allow your normal or custom plates, but have a special sticker like the LPG ones, in the middle of the plate?

Just have to fill in the log book before you head off for a drive.
So should you get pulled over and the log book hasnt been filled in - i would expect a fine! |

Shame it only applies to cars over 25 years as some cars under that age don't see the road more than 30 days a year!

Passing up the benefits of 90 day rego because of the colour of the number plates? What a bunch of wusses.
At least they are talking about having them in slimline now.

I think it is more the fact that a lot of people have customised plates specifically for their car and don't want to part with them. A lot of cars out there are known and recognised by the plates they wear.
I have SHY66 plates for my 1966 XR Falcon and BSSXR8 on my BA and would rather have these on the car then club plates.

Allow people to pay month by month and if they don't use they can just log it as "STORED OFF ROAD". Simple. Pay for use, full rego. How hard can it be?

I've just run in to a problem.
My car is modified and I bought it unregistered. I want to get it registered under club rego at the moment (only drive to club events then drive it 45/90 days when the new club rego system kicks in). The club that I'm looking at joining don't do inspections they just need a car to have a RWC and they will okay it. My problem is that the car was originally a 4 seater. When I bought it the rear seats and belts had been removed, a bolt in roll cage, race seats and 4 point harnesses fitted and the battery has been relocated to behind the passenger seat. I'm happy enough to have the car registered with it's seating capacity changed to 2 seats. But apparently to get a RWC it has to comply with the original RWC requirements that where in place when it was new (meaning rear seats and belts and retractable front seat belts rather than a harness). Has anyone else run in to this problem before and how did they get around it? I don't want to have to track down original rear seats, front and rear seat belts and relocate the battery. It seems like a waste of time and money and a backwards step to the safety of the car at the moment.
