Hi guys,
I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but am wondering what happened to rear-facing dickie seats, such as what was fitted (optionally) to older cars, especially Volvos (I've seen 850s and 240s with these seats). Why don't we see this seat mounting position anymore? Was there an ADR change that banned new cars from using these seats? are front-facing seats more space efficient? cheaper? etc. While this is not urgent, I'm just curious as to what happened to this seating arrangement. Thank you bigdude1011 |

I think rear-facing seats are safer in a frontal collision, that's why they're mandatory for small children.

I think the OP is referring to the seats in the boot of wagons. They are still available on high end Merc and Volvo wagons. Just behind a late model Merc wagon the other day with two little ones facing backwards waving at me at the red light.

The OP queried ADRs, and my point was I couldn't see why they would have been banned on safety grounds.
