No reason why a coupe couldn't have been made - They could've just used the ZJ Fairlane wheelbase and ute doors but it would have been a pretty ugly specimen of a car...probably why Ford stopped making the coupe after the XC

Loved the XD to XF series and owned both XD and XF Fairmont Ghias in the late 80's, early 90's...when I look back now I wonder what I was thinking - they have dated terribly - probably worse than VK/VL Holdens.

The XA/XC series on the other hand just get better looking everyday

No they stopped making coupes because they were no longer selling.

The Cobra was a limited edition because it was designed to use up the last of the coupe shells.

Ummm, coupes are usually on sedan wheelbases (or shorter) and XD/E/F/G/H ute doors are exactly the same as the sedans anyway

But that's getting us off topic and I think the question has been answered.

I wouldn't say they've dated terribly, from certain angles they look quite tough. The XF Ghia interior though... That being said there weren't a lot of good looking cars coming out of the '80s. That coupe looks like one of those ugly Chrysler coupes from the late 70s/early 80s.

There are no 'genuine' coupes after XC.
There were companies that would chop up your sedan and make a coupe (or a convertible), but they were never 'genuine'.

There was a mob around years ago who were manufacturing rear 1/4 panels and doors to turn them onto coupes.

I can tell you that this car was made from a Genuine 351 4-Speed XE ESP.
A legit Option 54 car...

My question - is why????

Are we all sure that the one in the ad is not a Mustang?

The Mustang of the era was smaller than the XD, smaller than a VB Commodore in fact. Did have similar square lines like the Falcon.

Like mentioned stang777 there were no genuine XD/E/F coupes but there are a few after market created examples floating around.

I wonder why people dont go the extra effort and do a proper hardtop look with the raked roof rather than making longer front doors and same roofline? I mean just like the photoshop of the green FPV GS that someone here did last year, that looked great and not like these abortions...

A well proportioned XD/XE/XF coupe would look good
The pics above well, not for me
Remember the XA/XB/XC coupes are more rounder in style ,than the square edged XD/XE/XFs

I saw a AU Coupe at Mcdonalds in Grafton recently my son took some pics on his phone I'll try to put them up.
Whoever built it did a great job and the roof etc was raked as well.
A waste of money on a AU IMO.

There was also an AU Falcon concept. It was powered by a supercharged 4.6L.

Some of the XD-XE coupes looked ok, however some of the ill proportioning make them look like large 80's model Nissan EXA coupes.

There were a couple of AU Coupes over here in Perth a few years ago...Some sort of joint venture between Sprintex Superchargers and Hillier Conversions if I remember rightly.......

I also think the name of the company doing the XE 2 doors all those years ago were Spanmoor?

(I own a 2 door BA Falcon.......oh that's right it's a Super Pursuit Ute....lol!)
