Default New York show: New Taurus points to Falcon facelift

Big US Ford debutante presents Falcon telltale with new corporate design DNA

25 April 2011

By BYRON MATHIOUDAKIS in New York

FORD design boss J Mays has confirmed that the 2013 Taurus facelift featuring the company’s new corporate nose will be integrated across a variety of upcoming models, including this year’s vital Falcon makeover.

The new Ford look will also be integrated into the next-generation Mondeo mid-size sedan.

Speaking to GoAuto at the New York International Auto Show last week, Mr Mays explained Ford’s desire for a bold, coherent look that still retains each individual model’s character.

Claimed to have been heavily influenced by the latest Audi A6, the new Taurus features a cleaner and more defined hexagonal grille treatment that lends itself to a variety of model grade variations.

Bowing to US buyer feedback, Ford said that it worked hard to differentiate the sports-orientated SHO version from the more mundane Taurus models with modified grille, bumper and air intake elements.

very interesting.. bringing the superman element to the falcon

I actually prefer the 2010 Taurus, this new one looks like they've hacked up a Toyota Highlander/Kluger. But as long as it looks different enough to stop people from making BF comparisons I will be satisfied.

I think when they show the picture's of the new Taurus and Falcon, the Falcon looks much better. The grille is way to big, they should swap the upper and lower ones around, that would look better imo.
Also, it looks like it has Mustang headlights in that front-on pic, don't mind them.

If FG2 looks something like that, I will be proud.

i hope this 'corporate look' doesn't come at the expense of nice looking cars, like dodge suffers from (eg that ugly cross grille). like when they try to make an SUV look like a focus, it just doesn't work due to the size difference.

Superman Symbol eh?

Well, I guess if you turn your head upside down, you can see it on the Territory to some degree. And here I was thinking the FG2 would adopt a family-like appearance with the Tezza....

I like it. A lot. It is a lot less polarising than AU was, and will translate well in other regions.

It looks great. Now change it to RWD, drop a V8 in it & call it something better than "Taurus" then theyll be on a winner.

In the link from the original poster was this article towards the bottom ,which is listed below reguarding the 2015 falcon and it being front wheel drive, sorry to hijack a bit ,but will anyone here buy the falcon if it does turn to front wheel drive ? I know that I would not buy a front wheel drive falcon, infact I would rather drive a commodore. Who here would ,just so we can see if ford australia would be wasting there time and money with such a product. maybe a poll on this would give us a better idea.

what the inverted trapezoid? he mentions that is coming to Falcon..so it'll look like Focus, Mondeo not Taurus.

Ie triangles in the bottom grill and a single chrome bar for the upper grill..looks and sounds plain and boring..would much prefer the superman upper grille of the Taurus

Nice update for the Taurus.
It does look good but I am not 100% convinced it is the right style for the Falcon. I do like the FG, I like the curves of it. Though it is dating now I much prefer the G6ET look to the Taurus.

Now thats more like it!!! No way can the FG2 be confused with the BF MK2/FG. I hope it comes out similar to that.

2013 Ford Taurus design points the way for next Falcon, Mondeo

by Zach Bowman (RSS feed) on Apr 27th 2011 at 6:21PM

If you've been wondering exactly what Ford has in mind for the next-generation Falcon, look no further than the recently revealed 2013 Taurus for a few clues. Ford design guru J Mays has officially made it clear that the look of the sedan will be transposed onto several of the automaker's other products, including models like the Mondeo and Falcon. The crew from Go Auto spoke to Mays at the New York International Auto Show last week where the designer said that the corporate look will still allow each model to flex its character.

Mays said that the design was heavily influenced by vehicles like the Audi A6 and that the new trapezoidal grille design on the 2013 Taurus will allow the vehicle's face to be easily applied to a range of products. Even so, don't expect to see exact carbon copies across the dealer lot. Mays made it clear that the design can be modified to deliver everything from an aggressive visage to a more subdued look.

FG2 FPV's have the potential to be a killer looking car with some great engines if the design language is applied well....really looking forward to FG2.

Am I right in assuming this article is about the next Generation of Falcon, ie, 2015 onwards and not FG2?!

You know something we dont? Next "new" Falcon is not confirmed yet (hence all the hoopla), Tezz got a new front and that design was locked in a long time ago, Im sure FG2 will get a similar treatment. Hopefully they dont share too much as we want a little bit of difference, but you could understand if they did.

I know about as much as everyone else. I was just thinking for it to look like the tauras would be a major change. The change from fg to fg2 would be like the terri as with a larger bottom than top grill. I can't see that much change for the superman grill for fg2 given previous series updates.

Yeah sorry what I was getting at is FG2 should be like the revision on the Tezz. Front and back tweeked and doors kept, although this time around I am not sure if they will bother much with its rear (might have to because it will look odd).

The article mentions Falcon getting the inverted trapezoid grill like MC mondeo..it is NOT getting the superman grill. Which is a shame.
