Hi,
New to the forum.... Just about to pay a deposit for a 2011 ex Demo, CL Fiesta. Its got 2000km on the clock. Extras Included: Car Mats Light Protectors Tinted Windows Front/Back Mud Spats Paint Protection (So they say). They were asking $17935, have given me $2200 for my old bomb, and I've agreed for them to fit some Speedy Cobalt Alloys for $500 (shop price $560 - $575). Do you think this is ok???? Its in perfect condition. Ahhh... Nervous. |

I've tried... even walked away once and I didn't hear from them. So then I crumbled and called back to try some more - I did get a little more off, but not what I was hoping.
They keep telling me the extras on it are whats keeping the price up. |

$18500 for a brand new one - but no extras, and only in ugly colours....
So I'd have to spend: $560 on new wheels $400 tint $120 mats $80 light protectors $100 mud spats |

I just figure for a few Km's on the clock, why not have everything on it that you'll end up spending down the track.

Exactly they are making you pay for the extras they put on in full.
Its only my opinion but i would be negotiating it to at least neat 17500. If not 17000 unfortunatly these cars do sell so hence reason why dealers not moving too much on price. Get Prices from other local dealers and some bit further away tell wat you have been offered they may offer you little more extras or except your offer. The price isn't that far off New one with no Extras. -- I could be wrong here but fairly confident that they get rebate from ford on demo cars.

19760, versus 18435. 1325 for a demo . .
i bought a demo xr6 with 500kms on it . the retail was new$36990 +tint 360 towbar $450 +mudspats $120 +floor mats $100 = 38020. i got the demo for = 34500. THATS A 9% DISCOUNT A 9% DISCOUNT ON YOUR RETAIL PRICE WOULD BE 17981 . I'D OFFER 18K AND WALK AWAY . . Ssell your car privately for more than $2200 what is it ? |

since i bought mine they have come down , you can now get brand new xr6 for 34990 driveaway . . maybe try 17 to 17.5 k offer .
but you must be prepared to lose it . try other dealers , dont get caught in the moment . i have in the past walked in to a dealer , told them to give me the best deal , with no offer , and got an instant 10% discount on a brand new car that had to be built to order , but i think the higher the price the more discount can be given , but thats 10% and a brand spanking new yet unbuilt car . other dealers were offering zilch at the time . My trade is a 1999 Camry Wagon. I've been offered $2000 for it elsewhere.

well its up to you . at the end of the day we are talking 100's here not 1000's , it all depends on if these cars are selling , and is there a new model due . sometimes its not worth the hassle to have apotential loss , when you look at the best case scenario , you might save another 500-600, on a demo. i doubt you would get a new one for 18k or less with those mods . it's still a 2011 model . depends on how urgent you are , and how much 500- 1000 means to you .

Is it an auto or a manual? For a manual it's too high a price. For an auto not too bad a price.

Its an Auto.
Well, I bit the bullet and paid the deposit yesterday. I rang up and spoke to 3 other dealers, told them I was about to do a deal unless they could better it and all came back and said they couldn't do anything. Bottom line, I'm happy with it, and like the previous poster said, its $100's not $1000's here, so why squabble over something so petty. Plus, the dealer is close to my home, so I don't have to trek all over the countryside. So, hopefully I'll have it in a week or so. Yay!!!!! Thanks everyone for your thoughts though, its been very helpful. Nat (Scooby) |

Congrats matey. I paid $23K for my 2009 Zetec 3-Door. At the the that wasn't a bad deal, but others were getting Five-Door models for $22K. But they had the exact car I wanted, and to be honest I was happy to pay a bit more to have the car then and there as apposed to waiting for months (which was the case in 2009).
Great job. As long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

Mate, as long as your happy and get what you wanted, thats the main thing... plus if colour was an issue like it was for me, i was prepared to haggle but took their best price as i only wanted black and they also gave me a good trade in and like you said if they are close to home all the better, put some photos up when you get her........ after market wheels on the CL are also a better option, that's what i did as i didnt like the wheels on the LX or the seat pattern........... plus you can always ad further bits, i just received a chrome strip from China that goes round the front lower grill to make a bit of difference between the black outs...........

When buying new or second hand car should always have subject to finance and conditions of sale in writing on sale contract.
I have learned my lesson too, In the end gave the car back to Finance company. The dealer got in trouble aswell but it was more the finance companys fault they paid the dealer while my instructions where to wait for green light from me. Got to keep track of everything in writing.

Most definitely subject to finance included in contract... Although it's sad to think that they only write it in after you tell them. No doubt dealers often deal with inexperienced purchasers and get to keep lots of deposits.

Dealer can't keep your deposit if you change your mind within the cooling off period (3 days), well not in victoria anyway they can only keep $100 or 1% if the car is 2nd hand or $400 or 2% i think if brand new

Just a note, when putting 'subject to finance approval' on your new car contract it’s always a good idea to specify the finance institution you are looking at using. i.e. 'subject to finance approval by CBA etc etc’ this just covers all bases.
Oh and usually as a rule I would always include a finance clause if I knew the client was financing the car, it means the dealer can hold off spending money on aquiring the car or fitting accessories unitl they are absolutley sure the customer can pay for it. I would say that you have gotten your self a good deal, don’t forget that discount of a demo is different on every vehicle. Aussie made Fords are always going to have a larger % discount compared to the imported vehicles.

Had a few issues getting it, due to things out of anyone's control, but ended up getting a full tank of gas, ipod connector and a boot mat thing (worth $200). So all up, extremely happy in the end.

Very expensive for a demo thats had the guts flogged out of it for its first 2000km (thats what happens to demos....) especially for a base model but if you like it and makes you happy then enjoy.
I'm assuming they have certificates to prove the paint protection was done? If not, be very sus... take it to a good body shop and they'll be able to tell you if its been done or not. Just be aware that dealer tint is very cheap and nasty and will struggle to last 5 yrs in many cases. Its always better to go aftermarket - half the price for a far superior product. Oh, and repco sell mats for about 10% of the price that Ford charge.... |
