Default Help Please

Hi all,

Looking to buy a 2007 LX WQ Fiesta.
When on test drive, car jumped out of second gear when changing down. Dealing said ""only needs an adjustment"". Does this sound normal or is this a common problem?
Any other issues I should be concerned with?
Car has done 33000KM & dealer wants $10500 for it.

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Geoff

Pretty sure the Fiesta has a hydraulic system and if so it won't have adjustment, I have experienced similar in an older car and it was caused by worn synchro rings inside the gearbox, does this car have log books and service history ? If not I would be guessing it may well have travelled a lot more kms than the odometer is reading and I would stay well clear of it :(

See if they'll "adjust" this gearbox to prevent it jumping out of gear, then watch them squirm.

Scarsasm off. It's worn synchros. So if they're willing to replace/recoe the gearbox, then look at buying. Otherwise continue the search, as the sales person is giving the usual sales pitch to drag you in.

Please read the manual carefully, as the these manufacturers spent millions of dollars making sure it is perfect.....Now why are there so many problems with my car, when I follow the instructions to the letter?....Answer, majority rules round here

Lock me up and throw away the key because I'm a hoon....I got caught doing 59 in a 60 zone

Definitely agree with the worn synchros, i had a an older nissan pulsar used to do the exact same thing. It also made a little crunchy sound sometimes when trying to go from third to second at higher revs. Would steer clear of this one sorry bud.

Hi All,
Have sighted log books, all servicing up to date.
Yes it is a Ford dealer, car was purchased from same selling dealer.
Will drive car again in next few days & see what they think about putting in contract about fixing/adjusting gearbox. Dealer was with me in car when it happened and did acknowledge it jumping out of gear.

Ask them to "adjust it" and then test it again, meantime dont sign anything.
If this cant be done then look elsewhere.

Very sus - 33K and badly worn syncros mean it's either been thrashed, driven by an incompetent driver or the odometer is telling fibs. I'd walk away: it's a fiesta and there's alot more out there.

Hi All,
Went back to dealer & requested they adjust/repair & then I would drive again. They beleived a part needed replacing & then all wouyld be good. Received call from dealer today, they have spent 8 hours & still no good. They are now outsourcing to a gearbox specialist to rebuild, whole car will be under 3 year warranty. Should we still look at buying?

Personally, I would stay away from it and look for another, if you can't find what your looking for in your area or even in your state, broaden the search. I have purchased several cars from other states (from dealers only) it's not overly expensive to have them shipped from interstate and it gives you a much better range to choose from.

There's a couple here that might interest you

Seriously, just walk away. There's heaps out there. The problem with the gearbox could be indicative of how the rest of the car has been treated. When in doubt, walk.

Very common for the IB5 gearbox to jump out of 2nd gear

If I try to coast in 2nd gear in my XR4 (ie: no accelaration) like rolling down a hill for instance it will jump out of 2nd gear by itself, apparantly this happens on a lot of WQ Fiesta's ... a lot of UK owners report the same thing .. it's part of the "character" of the IB5 box

My XR4 has practically done this since new, ... and no I never took it back while it was under warranty because I wouldn't trust any Ford Dealership to so much as check the air pressure in my tyres without stuffing it up, let alone fix a gearbox issue! ... besides they would only keep the car for a whole day to cause as much inconvenience as possible and then tell you they were "unable to replicate the fault".
