My pick would be HQ Holden, XA Falcon in a tie for first with the 48-215 next and the GTHO P3 next after that.

i have never driven a torana, but having been a passenger in both a 4 door and hatch, there was no comparison between an xb and a torana the comfort levels are much higher - you can wind down the rear windows in a ford coupe, you don't have to pop them out overall "to me" the xb is finished much better - of course i am biased and single minded though |

Best built Aussie Car would have to be the AU2/3, even by todays standards it holds up well which no other 12yr old model could come close to over the years.
Best recieved vehicle would be the Holden HQ/Falcon XF and sales figures for the day support it despite its lack of 'win on Sunday sell on Monday' racing pedigree, they smashed the opposition. Best looking cars...XB Coupe/A9X/AU2-3 XR or T series |

Well I think your all wrong, there's only 1 car that has received international recognition from this country.
The Lightburn Zeta from the 1960's. It went backwards by stopping the engine, turning the key the other way, putting the engine into reverse. I Kid you not. Theoretically it went as fast in reverse as it did going forwards. http://www.warrenmoore.com/2010/11/3...cars/?dur=1083 Last edited by billy302; 21-01-2012 at 12:35 PM. Reason: Incomplete |

I think you'd have to go back a fair way...the first Falcon was just a Yank Falcon with a few mods to suit our conditions, the first Holden was probably "more" Australian being designed here, but still drew on it's Chev roots.

Also, I can't believe Lewis Bandt's coupe utility isn't mentioned. The concept of the ute had a fundamental impact on the automotive scene, more significant than a lot of the cars in that list.

best australian car - the xa-xb coupe. very beautiful, great interior. the wrap around dash is fantastic. it took until the eb, for a car's interior to impress me more than the xb interior. obviously technology allowed for more creature comforts, but the basic seating comfort and dash was just outstanding of course, it isn't really australian, because it was a cross between a torino and mustang |

The words "best Australian built" infer built and perhaps build-quality rather than design but I think they meant to say designed and built. As there was no build quality worth speaking about till the 1990s (if not later... if at all!) that narrows the field somewhat.
So while the P76 is a candidate on design, on the basis of both factors I think we'd pretty much narrow it down to the Territory, recent Falcons maybe. The build quality is still a bit touch and go though! Holdens were never in the running I think and mostly haven't been Australian designs anyway. |

When we constantly look backwards, we miss seeing what's in front.
I loved the Aussie cars i had in my youth but would I want to own one these days? Not on your life, these are the good days. |
