I hope to god they do...might inject a little excitment and variety into that endless procession of Commodores and Falcons...
I like the comment: "We want to encourage new manufacturers to be with us," former champion and current V8 Supercar commission chairman Mark Skaife said. ...little bit different to the maniacal response several years back when Toyota expressed interest and everyone was bluntly told that they'd built the formula from the ground up and weren't having any blow-ins stealing thier thunder and riding on thier coattails... ...in plain english, they were afraid of having their asses handed to them by opposition forces using the black arts of modern technology instead of pushrod V8's like happened with the Godzilla Skylines...that whole era gave the V8 honchos a definite scare, and they didn't want to see it happen again. Let's hope they bring in more players! |

If you've read the concept of the new series - they have designed it for new manufacturers to join...
Toyota / Chrysler were targets, and anyone else who wants to have a run... It makes me smile that people who loved the racing in the 70s and 80s won't embrace the formats now... The reason that there is a new concept for the future is because they've run V8 Supercars for such a long time... Nostalgia is great, but it's a bit like when TV shows get revived... They never work... It's all good for the first couple of episodes... but at the end of the day it's never as good as the original... Give it a shot, and if you don't enjoy it watch the Muscle Car Masters...

Yeah, it's getting more like NASCAR.
That's why I want to see Bathurst this year, before the rules change.

while at the track, no one cares - or at least should care about the exact specifications of the cars. a v8 powered machine, that dances around that thin piece of black stuff that is called bathurst . . . . . there ain't many things better it is just the most awesome place in the world. indy, daytona, le mans, spa may all be awesome in their own way, but walk one lap around bathurst, and then watch from as many points as possible and the specification of those cars will mean nothing you "will" enjoy it |

![]() if you are in the country when the 12 hour is on, by all means go and have a look, but i personally wouldn't plan a trip around it. the 1000 is all you need to see i guess it would be like me travelling to the states. i would go in may. memorial day is all that would matter to me. if the rolex or others were on at the same time, then i might go to them, but there is only one race that is worth travelling to the other side of the world for - and like indy (or maybe daytona depending on taste) bathurst is disclaimer: there is only 1 bathurst - the 1000km race in october. the 12 hour and the rest are just events held in country nsw ![]() |

Oh wait...the problem would be that the yobbos and bogans might see something without eight cylinders win a race! Arrrggghhh! We can't have that!!! Bring back the old Bathurst...lots of vclases of car from small to large, of all cylinder numbers and capacities all sharing the track at once, you never know who's going to win, or what upsets will happen to force big changes in the leader pack, or when some underdog will put up a huge fight to end up finishing fifth or sixth in some smaller car but who wins the audiences heart. *Sigh*...those were the good old days...I suppose there'd be a lot of fans now who've never seen anything but the FalcoDore Parade that it's become now... |

Who can remember Jim Richards calling moron Holden and Ford fans "a pack of *********" after winning Bathurst in a Nissan skyline GTR, a great moment in motor sport history. Imagine if Nissan or Toyota were allowed to join the series and the technology they can bring to it, they would leave both Holden and Ford for dead. Just look at what happened when Nissan were allowed to compete with the GT-R, it was Godzilla first, daylight second, the Sierra Cosworth third and the Holden's were still circulating on the track after the other teams had already packed their transporters and left the circuit. The fact is that they changed the rules so that only Ford and Holdern V8's would be the main racing in this country because of being slaughered by the GTR! (who would have thought the scars of the Nissan Skyline GTR woulr run so deep to this day lol) If this didn't happen, who knows what advancement both Ford and Holden would have made over the years just to stay competitive? Maybe we would be all driving around in way more advanced holden and fords on the street as a result?

First of all the GTR only had one good year, 1991. The others it competed in, the Sierra cleaned it up in the standings. The demise of Group A had nothing to do with the GTRs perceived dominance, the timing was purely a coincidence, it was scrapped because of costs and a decline in participation with each region going to their own formula and set of rules in favour of parity, but don't let facts get in the way of a good story. |

if the v8's were competative - they wouldn't have needed to change anything - that's fact no matter which way you want to look at it lol

it virtually wiped the board clean in 91 and 92 - won both the championship and bathurst in both years. jim won the title in 91 in the nissan colours. skaife won the title in 92 with the winfield gtr. as much as i think the sierra was the best road come racing car ever built, the gtr could not really have been any more dominant as far as other brands joining the v8 supercars circus, i do not want it to happen. for years ford have been given the wrong end of the stick from the officials - how many times have we been even competitive at bathurst since 93 after being bent over for years while holden get everything, i have no desire to see the new boys get more from the officials than ford. and let's face it, if a new manufacturer joins, they will be given every chance to succeed. ford will be a distant 3rd, 4th or worse, if other manufacturers join |

I dont understand why people whinge about them not being like the street cars. Thats because they are race cars and its Australias top race category. Its the same with NASCAR, F1, WRC, Drag racing etc. The cars in those are nothing like you can buy either.
People say the old days were better but the races were boring with one car sometimes half a lap infront of 2nd place. |

This series they have today is not the same series back in the early 90s. Back then it was a very diverse field, now it's just a formula-style category |

Great now I have to look out for a Chrysler badge as well, so I know which brand is winning. As at the moment there not much difference in the cars appearance.
