Just finished reading this new Commodore vs Falcon road test on Drive today... in the end a slim win to the Falcon although I disagree with the assessment of the drive train not adding up to a even bigger margin.

In a world thats becoming increasingly allergic to large sedans, its good to see a write up such as this.
Thumbs up to Drive (for once) on providing a well-balanced argument, that will hopefully convince some people out there to avoid another pointless SUV purchase. Its a lot more versatile & useful to a wide selection of demographics than what people realise. This includes from an economical standpoint. |

The most significant thing that I see in those results -
Ford Falcon Fuel use (claimed) 9.9L/100km Fuel use (on test): 9.97L/100km Holden Commodore Fuel use (claimed) 8.9L/100km Fuel use (on test): 9.85L/100km |

And if the Ecoboost was tested it would be all over red rover.
If only the Falcon could pinch 500 sales per mth off the commodore... |

Don't know what's happening at the moment but anyone who read Cars GUide today in the Sun ..... It read like it was "Today sponsored by FORD" Double page write up on XR6T FG11 (4/5 Stars and very big wrap) ..... another 1/2 page on EcoBoost ..... etc. Last week was a double page spread on EcoBoost (again extremely glowing) and the week before a double page spread on GT-E. Again another huge wrap beating HSV Caprice.

Perhaps they've realised that if Ford closes Broady down, Elizabeth will also probably go under and they can't bear the thought of losing their beloved/worshipped Holden! GK

Kudos to them for a balanced review though. You won't hear me heap praise on Drive too often I can tell you...

LOL, I'm waiting with glee for the "Bathurst 1000" between Ecoboost and 3.0 SIDI,
Something sure to make even the most staunch Holden fans cringe wince with pain.. |

Holden tune cars to make good ADR economy figures for the ADR tests, Ford tune the cars to get good economy in the real world. Has been proven over and over again when the Fords can come close to their ADR figure, while Holdens can't get near it. How do they manage to smudge the figures?
And whats with the Falcon interior comments, that its a decade old. WTF? |

I upgraded from a BA into my current FG and the interiors are nothing alike, so I have no idea why he would say the Falcon interior is older than the Commies... VE - 2006 FG - 2008

Should have made mention on the amount of oil the VE burned during the test.... Holdens chew through oil something chronic.

Why not? They still do..the FG is worse than B series for breaking handles and window switches in my cabs. Be hard to do a comparison with commodore handles but since there are so few cabs running them...LOL |

It's fairly well documented the oil use of the Alloytech engines. All the ecotechs I've been involved with burn it as well.
