The prices of the new 300C are similar to the G6 and Berlina. with better equipment levels. The 300C Luxury is priced with G6E and Calais.
The SRT is $66k... thats gotta hurt FPV and HSV..It will be interesting to see how sales go. FIRST DRIVE VERDICT Chrysler’s new 300 range delivers on the high expectations of new Fiat/Chrysler products. The range is vastly improved overall in performance, quality, efficiency, and value. Whether the Australian market will embrace another large, rear-wheel-drive sedan remains to be seen, but there are definite highlights among the range that could put yet another dent in Falcon and Commodore sales. At $66,000, the barnstorming SRT8 is a cheaper, more powerful, better equipped and likely faster alternative to FPV’s GT or the HSV Clubsport R8. The diesel V6 is a nice drive, and delivers impressive economy considering the 300’s significant weight. But, for $5000 less, we agree with Chrysler’s expectation that the petrol V6 will be the volume seller, and the eight-speed auto is a nice little bonus to boot. http://www.themotorreport.com.au/545...e-in-australia

Very nice car! ive always liked the look of the 300 range and this really improves upon it. But...the 300 range is (imo and others too) for 40+ year olds and not for the under 30's market...lol...where as the FPV's and HSV's suit all ages.

I'm hoping this is a start in more competitive prices across the range of vehicles in Australia, thus reducing the price gouging in Australia.
One can hope! |

I'm in love with my 300C and will definitely be upgrading to the new SRT8 with the 6.4Ltr. The thing that I don't like about them is that they don't have that "gangster" look that the previous model holds, but in all it's a far superior car packed with gadgets, and at 66k they're definitely giving Holden and Ford a run for their money.

The SRT will be slower than the GT and possibly the HSV too. It might have more power on paper but it definately doesn't have the torque spread of the Falcon.
Edit: It is also 150kg's heavier than the GT. So less torque (in the lower rev range), similar power (we all know the GT has more than 335 at the fly) and more weight yet the journos think it will be faster Last edited by irish2; 12-07-2012 at 04:49 PM. |

Handling looks like it could be better and its a real porker in the weight department.

the AWD SHO Taurus weighs about the same and probably performs the same too.. By comparison, our own XR6 Turbo with luxury pack looks an absolute bargain |

Not really my kinda car, too much of a barge. But it looks ok, except from the rear which is just horrible. I just cant get over the equipment levels - a lot of it was optional on 7 series BMW's and S Class Mercs a few years ago!

I love it. That is nice evolution of the original 300C.
That 8 speed ZF must be a cracker. The base model is 2100kg and with a 210kw/340Nm V6 if goes from 0-100km/h in 7 seconds flat. Combined consumption is also impressive at 9.5L/100kms. Lot of kit even for the base 300 Limited. |

Weight and handling will be an issue for some. Most will never use the car at a track or take it through a mountain pass so weight wont be considered.

You cant compare a XR6T to any 300C...even in V6 form, its just not the same kind of car. If we had a G8E then perhaps...but we dont.
300C buyers couldnt give a fat rats about handling. They look good, go well enough and break out from the crowd. They are also full of fruit and do the job they were designed for perfectly. People comparing the handling to GT's etc are clutching at straws. The only comparison to the SRT8 is perhaps the GTE...so then you need to look at the gizmo's etc that you get because at the end of the day they both go like stink. But from what I understand you save a fair bit of coin buying the Chrysler.

Just remember that a Falcon will weigh 150-250kg less then the 300C.

The regular 300(c) already has the 8spd. I took a ride in one a couple of weeks back. The 8spd has a different gear selector to the 5spd. Very short.
