Default Work in WA for tradies?

Hello everyone,

My missus (Sezzy) and I are looking at moving to Perth. I'm a little apprehensive at the moment, work over here (Brissy) is fairly slow, but I have a job so atleast thats something.

I'm a painter by trade and a contractor at that, I've looked on all the job websites but there seems to be bugger all advertised at the moment. I was just wondering how the industry was over there?

We were looking at Secret Harbour or Bunbury, though I'm fairly flexible with that, I'll go where work and fishing is. Also where the majority of the AFF boys are

Cheers

Not sure about bunbury area but def plenty of work on in the city.

Plus you can't beat the beaches/fishing over here

The beaches/fishing is what the missus used to sell Perth to me.

How is the general overall work climate there anyway? (Not just for tradies?)

I am still getting work.

It's been a particularly bad year for strokes and influenza, the former keeping me very busy in my last rotation.

Seems to be a quiet year for hip fractures however.

Personally I would go for Bunbury, Secret Harbour is a dormitory suburb half way between Rockingham and Mandurah. At least in Bunbury there is plenty of housing development going on (should be a fair amount of work there to keep you occupied) and you're at the gateway to the south-west - loads to see and do on your days off down there. Good fishing and beaches down there as well.

Plenty of work for everyone if you do your research and look in the right places.

For tradies, look at where all the big housing projects are and go there.

Me personally though, I've had enough of Perth after 2 years and just want to go back to Sydney. But I live in Burswood over here so that has its perks. Something I wouldn't have in Sydney!

I often drive past an area called the Australian Marine Complex.

There are several business with signs out the front advertising work, mostly for boilermakers.
