Default Air compressor Conversion Help!

Hi,

I am currently converting a 3 phase big air compressor with a petrol engine on it. The engine is a 13hp motor and the pump is a type 30 ingersoll rand. I have had my step dad say that I need a clutch and I do not believe it does. Can people give me a some advice.

Any help would be appreciated. I can provide more details if needed

you either need a clutch or you need a air release valve, that auto opens too regulate the pressure in the tank, otherwise the tank will possibly explode if you dont switch the engine off

Yes it needs a clutch that is hooked up to a load/unload valve so when it gets to a set pressure it engage/disengage . Otherwise it will just keep building pressure until the relief valve blows

Hi. Petrol or diesel engine compressors use an unloader valve to stop the comp from working and a governor to control the speed of the engine. when the pressure is high enough the unloader stops the compressor from pumping and tells the governor to let the engine idle. As the pressure drops to the lower switch point the governor brings the revs up and the unloader valve stops working so the comp starts pumping again. Cheers MD

Whatever you do , make sure the pressure relief valve is there and works ( should be totally separate from all other hang ons and be on the tank ) .
