Default Car covers+Sun=?

Hi.

I live on a farm and my car stays a family members in town, and is 99% always in the sun. Lately it's been hitting around 42c mid day. Will the sun effect the paint? I would imagine it would, and is there away to protect it against the sun? Also I have a cover, only problem is that it's see through, so not sure what it would do, plus it might get sweaty under it after a while?

Has anyone got any suggestions or you can't really do much against the sun?

Yeah. And does that include the wax at the car wash? I wash my car atleast twice every fortnight. The spray on wax at the car wash I'm talking about.

Is the sun going to make it fade or anything though?

Fading paint is a fact of life and the only way around it is to get the car repainted, but by the time the car has faded enough to bother you, the car will probably be at the end of it's life. I'd be more concerned about the sun cooking your interior and bleaching your plastics and cloth trims.

Oh ok, that's good to know then. I just thought it might be screwed within a few months.

Also I went and got a giant "big window car" sun visor thing, it's huge. It fills my front window when its folded in half so all the dash is covered.

I just don't want to drive it out here as the road is that **** it sounds like it's gonna fall apart.

I should get sun shades for side windows to?

Depending on the weather conditions your car is subjected to you probably need to wax/polish more often to protect it.
As for a car cover, a good quality one will not harm your paint work.

I work in the steel industry where there is a lot of fall out of metal dust & lime and I use a quality made car cover & polish quite frequently with no problems.

yes i would be trying for shades on the windows if no cover can be had, i`m thinking some window tint to help keep temps down in the car might help also.

we're in the process of doing a driveway to our house
so at hte moment both cars are just sitting on a stretch of roadbase...in full sun for 3/4 of the day
the thing that ***** me off is all the dust and tiny tiny bits of leaf and tree that get in and sit on all the rubbers near the windows

driveway starts in 3 weeks so hopefully within the month the baby is in the garage.

amazing
G6E in full sun
yet the old ADP VH is tucked in an old shed full of whipper snippers and ride ons...and has a car cover over it
go figure
owned a few red cars and is it me or do they fade the worst?

I would apply a good quality wax at least every 3 months if the car is living in the sun.
Car covers are great and would only cause damage if you put them on the car when the car is dirty, as the movement of the cover (especially when windy) acts to rub the dust into the paint causing scratches.
You need to look at interior protection as well, as vinyls and plastics will crack and fade. Always put a window shade up and treat the interior with a good application of 303 Aerospace protectant. This stuff is fantastic and has high UV protection.

make sure you polish/wax the car properly too, don't use those automatic drive through ones as they dont wash you car properly and will stuff your paint by sealing little bits of tar from the road etc into the paint. I would never take my car through a car wash, let alone a automatic waxing, but thats just me.

I use to cover my car with a big old blanket that fitted over both windows.
I opened the doors and shut them over it ..
The blankets come in handy when your in the dog house too !!!

Haha yeah I thought of the old blanket trick, just read bad things about it sweating.

I have a cover, it's a thing clear one though.

Only bought it for my partners house basically, stop chickens from scratching it.

this was wool but cotton, fabric won't sweat !! Plastic will ..
I stored my car for six months with a paper type car cover..
Only fit when car is clean tho..
