Default Huge engine from Qld to Vic - freight needed

G'day,

In a moment of madness I went and bought 27 litres of Rolls Royce V12 awesomeness. Problem is I am in Echuca (Northern Vic) and it's in Caboolture. It is in a steel shipping frame measuring 2m long by 1.3m high by 0.9m wide. Weight is close to a tonne. Any suggestions for a freight company?

Cheers

Would probably make it easy to move seeing as it's in a frame. What are your ideas for the engine?

A giant vintage speedster based on an early 1930s Diamond T truck chassis, similar to the Amercan Lafrance speedsters of the 1920s-30s.

Try pickerings transport group, though you might have to get it into Brisbane for them. they may also only be able to get it to kerang, i could help to get it from there to echuca if you need. worth a shot though

Pickerings might be a go, their home depot is Swan Hill and I could easily collect from there. Getting it to Brisbane might be a problem though.

Is it a Merlin aircraft engine or a Meteor tank engine?

Those engines go well in a Fordson Power Major tractor, lol.

It's a Meteor, fully reconditioned by the military, test run and then crated. Never run since.

Cowboy, they are not that huge. It will fit on a tandem trailer no worries. The Merlin is about 750kg. The Meteor should be a bit lighter as it does not have a super charger.

Grab a trailer and have a few days holiday.

I've got a covered in 8x5 tandem available if you decide on that route. Road trips are always fun

Oh by the way, I love your plans, I like crazy. I've thought about dropping one of those on the back of a ute!

That's a very kind offer mate but it's a personal rule never to borrow trailers! I did years ago, the trailer basically fell to bits on me and I had to spend a lot of time and $$ rebuilding it before I could return it. If the trailer from the hire place falls to bits then its their problem.

You're not far away though, it would be worth a drive one day just to see your coupe! A coupe is very much on my wish list.

Fair enough, though my trailer is in good nick, I took it to mareeba and back. I did a bit of work to it before then so its all good. Offers there if you go for it. And yeah you can look at my coupe while your there, I'm away in the NT at the moment but my dad can show you it no probs.

That was my first thought mate and still very much an option. 3200km round trip, worked out it will cost me about $800 in fuel plus trailer hire, food and expenses. Now the girlfriend wants to come so it will be hotels instaed of the swag. I reckon $1200 total, made me wonder if freight might not be cheaper. Was going to put it in the back of the Patrol but it's a lot of weight for that distance.

I'm away at work at the moment so wouldn't be looking to do anything for about 2-3 weeks anyway. The seller assures me that loading isn't a problem.

Trailer would be difficult to load unless it was a flat bed or had drop down sides. I say this as I assume the engine is on a crate that is loaded and unloaded by fork lift on the side.

A fair point. Luckily the engine is in a steel cradle/frame that comes up and over the engine and this is all anchored to a wooden base. Even if it wasn't though it could be easily solved with a couple of nylon lifting slings.
