Default Ford targets premium market with Vignale flagship that could make it to Australia

http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...A#!prettyPhoto

Maybe some further jig saw pieces ...re future models and Falcon replacements. IMHO the new 2014 Mondeo rear end still isn't as upmarket looking as the front.. bet the FG rear upgrade looks better.
Quote:
FORD has signalled its intention to take the Mondeo – and other models – upmarket with the unveiling of a premium Vignale concept at the Frankfurt motor show this week.

In a move that could be significant for Ford Australia as it prepares to discontinue the Falcon in 2016 and rely instead on the European-sourced Mondeo as its flagship passenger car, the Vignale version will offer styling enhancements and more features than the current range-topping Titanium variant

Don't overprice it !!! its not in Audi, BMW league...people won't pay for premium Fords, irrespective of equipment, etc..
will this happen here ?? be nice if it did..

...Vignale was taken over by DeTomaso Automobili (owned by Ford) in 1969[1] and ceased to exist in 1974. Aston Martin produced a concept car called the Lagonda Vignale at the 1993 Geneva motor show. Aston were, at the time, owned by Ford who in turn also own Ghia which is how the name came to be revived. Also Ford used Vignale name in Ford Focus Vignale concept car introduced at the 2004 Paris Motor Show,[4] the production model was named as Ford Focus Coupé-Cabriolet.

Great looking car in my opinion. I wish they would stop debating and get these cars here already. Typical of Ford, always late to the party.

Liking the front end.

Agree with pridenjoy though, very ordinary name. Stick with Titanium.

I dont think people understand, the name Vignale (Vinarly) replaces the Mondeo Badge, not the titanium badge.

I quite like it, elegant, beautifully laid out interior, striking details that make it more classy than the Mondeo. Bring it in I say, I would certainly consider it.

I like it .

AWD hi-output ecoboost please, can replace the Mazda when it's time.

FH XR8/GT to replace the BF2 Ghia
and Hi Po AWD Mondeo to replace the MPS 6

Will make our family fleet 100% Ford.

please don't try to be euro Ford, what a stupid name for a Ford... it should stay on the tuscan sea

Anything less than rwd or awd and you can keep it....

I don't mind the design in and out, may aswell get use to it... that steering wheel is what we need, so sick of the falcon ones

Mondeo worked, why would you change it to a euro name that sounds like female anatomy, if Ford brings Vignale downunder then, it should go down well, lol

The name Mondeo is about as euro as you can get!

I'll admit that I don't like the name "Vignale". Not sexy enough.

Vignale is Euro and in my view, Ford's differentiation in the market (excluding the outgoing Falcon/Terri) is the fact that it's models are Euro sourced. Makes sense to me as Euro cars are perceived to be superior by the average punter and is probably the reason why Ford aren't doing anything with the FG Falcon, i'd expect a Euro push from Ford with the FH though.

If they really want a flagship large car then why the hell did they never bother with the Falcon. They could have taken it and specced up the luxury aspect to create a genuine flagship, not a tarted up mid sized bum dragger with a weak engine.

A higher specced G6E Turbo would have been a true flagship. Or GTE as a cut price E63/M5 competitor.

Such a wasted opportunity.

The problem is which is cheaper to produce...a higher specced Falcon needing all the R&D to put it on the road and then amortise those costs over a small number ...or placing an order with Ford Euro by email...and maybe sell less then the Falcon but also spend tens to hundreds of millions less to begin with?

Agreed. What the Vignale says to me is that there is space above the Mondeo for a niche premium sedan - a perfect opportunity for a next gen Falcon (if it existed).

Perhaps there is, but this is based on the mondeo, its not a new car...its the G6 to the XT...

The Falcons chance would have been in a Lincoln RWD sedan...

Post 8 in the thread indicates the link to Ford.

I don't see the issue with having the luxury premium spec Mondeo, that one step up from the Titanium. Not a big fan of the front of it but the interior looks like a nice place to be. Very classy.

I agree here, usually I'm the odd one out for liking the left of field dodgy looking crap.

Its like Kenworth and their interiors that look like 1920's couches, with the red leather with buttons all over it.

Total crap IMO.

EDIT: Reminds me of old people and their golf uniforms with the V neck vest with colourful diamonds on it. Oooooooo yes I would love some earllllllllllllll greyyy tea!
