Now it would be cool if they could keep us up to date with email or sms for rego expiry. Sure send out the renewal as usual but just a quick reminder a few days before expiry.

Yes, I'm afraid as much as I hate the stickers (especially on a motorbike), they do provide a constant prompt about when your rego is coming up.

My rego here in NSW is almost due and so far I’ve had two email notices to advise the due date with all the necessary links to do on-line renewal, CTP info, my nearest registry office, how to access the iPhone rego renewal app and the name, address and phone number of 141 inspection stations in my local area. The first email notice was about a month out and the second was with 2 weeks to go. The emails are in addition to the paper copy I received in the post. |

I, for one, would have preferred the rego stickers stay, i.e. tangible proof of ludicrous amount of funds expended.... also, it neatly covers up a stone chip i have just there !!

It was nice having the rego stickers because it was an easy way to identify VIN, engine number and year when you needed to get parts, just go out there, snap a photo of the rego sticker with your phone and go back to order parts.

Take a pic of your rego papers when they come and keep it in your phone.

Their site http://www.qld.gov.au/transport/news...bel/index.html
says you can choose to keep it on until it expires. |

Can I remove my current label? From 1 October you can remove your registration label if you choose or you can keep it on until it expires. You won’t get a fine if you don't remove the registration label.

It also says "You won’t get a fine if you don't remove the registration label". So by the look of it, there's nothing wrong with keeping the old sticker on.

I think that is in the context of leaving one on after tomorrow (that isn't expired) if you chose to.
Happy to be corrected if someone has a reliable source that says exactly the opposite. This isn't reliable, but my local paper says you can leave them on until they expire as well. Why would they specify that if it wasn't enforcable? http://www.warwickdailynews.com.au/n...ckers/2403176/ |

I think you will find that the basic rules say you are not allowed to have an expired rego sticker displayed
I remember the days when people would just keep adding the new one and keeping the old one as it was not against the law technically.

In SA specifically, after the last stickers became out of date, their legal status was changed to "just another sticker"-ie-leaving them on is no longer illegal. This is out of the mouth of a SAPOL spokesperson. Not sure of the other states though.

Annoying. Would pay for the option of having a proper sticker to go by. Drove interstate accidentally with expired rego and the thought suddenly crossed my mind on the way home that a year had elapsed since last paying rego.

Glad I don't have a rego sticker. Rego sticker has never touched my car and never will.
Surely everyone should be able to remember at least the month your rego is due. I know mine is in mid march. If I haven't got my papers by the first few days of March I'll be looking into it. Last car due late sept. One before that early Feb. one before I can no longer remember. Work cars due 1 November and I have never even paid that one myself. If you still have trouble remembering put a reminder on your phone or stick the papers on your fridge. Surely most people have a phone these days that has a calendar |

How will they handle driving an unregistered vehicle now if you are driving someone elses car ie work car. You won't have a rego sticker to work off.
Personally I'd prefer to have one.

Thats a good point, how do you know the car you are borrowing or driving is actually registered.
Although I could just put my sticker on and not have paid the rego anyways, and you would think it was all good.

I had no issue with the stickers. My big concern is that with 6 registered cars, all due at different times, I'm going to forget. So I hope they do send appropriate reminders prior to expiry. Also a "why have you chosen not to renew?" after expiry date.

In this day and age if you don't re register your car it's your fault, no excuses. Licence renewals are often every 5 years and we cope doing them |
