Hi everyone I purchased my mondeo in november stupidly buying it
with the problem it has thinking it would be fixed... the dealership replaced the power steering pump and told me I need to drive it to Bleed the system.. anyway it has now been to ford 3 times has had The pump changed numerous times as well as the reservoir and rack. The whine happens as soon as you start the car up till 60kms then its unoticable. Ford end up telling me they are clueless whats wrong With my car and handed it back. . Just wondering if anyone has an idea what it could be or had this happen to their mondeo. thanks everyone |

I had an annoying whine develop on our 2008 TDCI Mondeo. After lot's of research of UK mondeo site I narrowed it dwon to it down to a cavitating powersteering pump caused by the gauze filter in the reservoir. This is caused by the seals in the steering rack apparently breaking down (I suspect my mechanic used wrong pwr steering oil). I bought a new reservoir from Fraud today $121 and fluid from Bursons $41 and replaced the reservoir. I notice that the new reservoir is designed differenly with a removable and washable filter. Once replace there is now zero whine. I will be doing a complete flush of the pwr steering system on the weekend as my oil is dirty looking. I have read some reports that the lines could become block by steering rack debris. This might be your problem as you have had everything else replaced. Hope this helps.

Yes the filter in the resivour gets blocked quite easily and causes the whine. I have had success removing resivour and flush out with brake clean and flush and replace PS fluid.
