Default New Ford Taurus

Can help but feel like we have been a bit ripped with the specs on our Mondeo?

V6TT and AWD would make it a cost effective Audi like car. Would be nice if the ST mondeo gets the drivetrain given that apparently the Taurus is a stretched Mondeo chassis?

Im ok with the length of the thing too, not to phased on the cup holders though.

http://www.carsales.com.au/news/2015...ws&csn_tn=true

Apparently a full reveal today US time.

A lot of the roof and hipline still looks like the outgoing model, so I wonder how much is really Fusion based underneath

Really?? (refer attachments)

Pretty sure Ford wouldn't continue with the archaic underpinnings of current Taurus...

To my eyes it looks a lot more like the outgoing Taurus than the new Fusion. That could just be the way it's been styled or there could be more to it.

Top hats don't have to look alike/have the same silhouette to be on the same platform... Kuga/Focus, EcoSport/Fiesta comes to mind, as recent examples from the Ford empire.

Dare say it's a styling thing, when as Simon said, it's spun off CD4, rather than ye (VERY) olde D3 (basics from late 90s Volvos) of the 2010-onward US one!

Polyal,,,Aussies are also ripped on specs with the G6E and Territory...seems like Ford Aus only wants us to have lower spec cars...at higher spec prices,,,,

We may be ripped on spec, but we aren't ripped on driver dynamics or safety.

Gee FGX really does have the corporate look about it...the rear is pretty much exactly the same.

it is nice that Ford is putting a bit more effort into the interior luxury area, these days I reckon this where most of the sales race is won or lost.

it's off the same CD4 architecture as Mondeo, but on the CD4.3 platform (same as Lincoln)

Sharing the same platform with the Mondeo, the new Taurus will be front-wheel drive with the option of all-wheel drive in some markets. Channelling the power to the road is an all-new nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Surely this must mean its possible to make an AWD Mondeo

Or a RWD Mondeo . Imagine if FPV still existed for the diehard fans, get a few blokes to rip out front driveshafts and cobble together a few engine conversions and bodykits..

Whatever the case the engine would need to be transverse,
It would be hard to go past the 2.7 twin turbo offering for the Fusion we will find out soon what the specs are.

Probably 330hp like the Lincoln MKX

Have you seen Chinese traffic?
Could probably be fine with just a drum brake at the back of the gearbox.

There has to be something...otherwise why does BMW/Audi/Merc persist with it?

I wonder how much this one will weigh now that they aren't reliant on an SUV platform to underpin it.

Very nicely done- in Australia by Australians. This, and the Escort, and India's Figo, and Lincolns being US-only, proves Mulally's One Ford doesn't work.
If I couldn't have a cast-iron straight six rear wheel drive plug-in hybrid Hydrogen powered turbo-diesel ecolpi Falcon, I'd be happy enough to call this Taurus a Falcon.
Pity Mulally came along when he did.

Welcome to the Forums.

Mulally took Ford from ~$1.50 a share to now hovering around $16 a share. Ford, unlike the others, avoided bankruptcy and is now making massive profits for their shareholders and is doing incredibly well. Profit is in the hundreds of millions, and that's per quarter. One Ford has been a massive success.

I love Aussie-made Falcons as much as anyone here, but don't let your love of all things made in Australia blind you from the facts!

XR8.
Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, we all know about the profits and the share price - and sorry, I will be less sarcastic next time.
But still, "One Ford" isn't as literal as it sounds. I always had trouble with equating planes to cars.
And I don't expect Mr Mulally would have foreseen the Aussie dollar falling so much. If he did, would we be building Fiestas, Focuses, Rangers, and Falcons for South East Asia?
Is there a market for the Taurus? Probably not ever.
Yes, I was being sentimental.

One Ford is not as literal as the name suggests. For most of the world, it's One Ford. But China and India have 1 billion+ potential customers, each. So it's okay to customize a range (Tauraus for example) to suit their needs. It's still One Ford to me.

The F150 has been the best selling vehicle in the States for decades, it is an insane cash-cow for Ford. I doubt it would sell in big numbers outside of North/Central America, and they haven't gone there because it doesn't make sense. F150 for America, Ranger for RoW.

Even if the Aussie dollar didn't fall so much (us Kiwis already have the champagne on ice for the dollar parity party), the cost of building cars in Australia compared to Thailand is just too great to ignore. Could Ford build a car in Australia and sell it globally at a small profit, maybe (actually no). Could Ford build a car in Thailand and sell it globally with a huge profit, yes. If you were in a Ford HQ boardroom, which would you pick?

That, and developing cars off an existing platform for a large market is far more cost effective than developing a car off an orphan platform for a small market.
