Default Windows 10 problems

Well I updated to Windows 10 today and so far have regretted it. I am having troubles with the mouse touchpad on my laptop. To start with I had no cursor at all. Then I was able to make the cursor appear but I couldn't move it. So I go into mouse properties and it looks like the driver isn't enabled. So I enable the driver which then allows me to move the cursor using the touchpad but I can't click on anything. When I restart the computer it goes back to either not having the cursor at all or having the cursor but I am not able to move it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I havent had that issue.

I have had it for about a week now and all has been good apart from Windows decided to restart an do an update in the middle of typing.

When it came back the nice start menu was gone and i now have an alphabetical list of applications instead.

Anyone know how to get my classic menu back?

Have you gone to the manufacturers site to see if there is a updated driver for the touchpad?

All fixed. Thanks mate.

I did an update search and nothing was found but yes going to the manufacturer website found an update.

Now that it is fixed, initial impressions are it is much better than Windows 8.1 for ease of use.

I have reports that in a network your computer can be used as a gateway for all others to do microsoft updates with...that could be annoying.

also...users on a network unknowingly share passwords...how bizarre?

You can turn that off during the initial setup, instead of using Express Installation, far left, use Customize Install

I'm waiting a month or 3 before I take the plunge for the same reasons - hopefully any obvious bugs will be reduced.

I bought a new computer 3 months ago and have only used it twice - I hate the Windows 8 interface and am waiting for 10 to be installed on both my computers.

Apparently, you can download it to a DVD rather than installing it direct. Is this correct? I would do this for my old Windows 7 machine allowing me to revert back to 7 if need be whilst still having access to the free 10 update after the year is up.

Also, any idea on how large the file is??

Download Classic Shell.
You can completely bypass that Metro garbage and give the look and feel of XP. It's only 6mb or so and easy to set up.
It's a Windows 8 lifesaver...

Windows 8 reminded me of the way people react to Facebook changing and evolving over the years, everyone starts yelling, screaming, shaking fists at the sky and beating tables over it and how crap the new Facebook interface is.

Then a week later, everyone's like, what interface change?

Once you got used to it, Windows 8 was boss, I just use the desktop screen with all my most used apps pinned to start bar and search for everything else by right clicking on the windows button.

Nice and simple.

I'm looking forwards to trying Windows 10 though.

I downloaded it to a USB drive - you have the option to do this to install on multiple machines.

It's about a 2.7Gb download to use the auto downloader (which didn't work after multiple attempts on my computer) and it takes up just over 3Gb on the USB drive.

Go to your laptop manufacturer's website and download the driver for your touchpad.

I had the same issue on my laptop. It worked but had no gestures.

Went to devices click on the trackpad and rolled the driver back. Works fine now.

10 is what 8 should of been.

Im a huge 7 fan but swapped the laptop over to try it out. Once I realised you can right click the start button to get the buttons for control panel etc its been a breeze to use. I am just holding offupdating my main rig as there are still issues with nvidia drivers and sli setups... that and its a non gen windows. Want to see if anything happens to the laptop before I do the main rig.

I guess you are into pc gaming also? In my experience, Windows 7 is still clearly the best choice of OS for gaming and I don't expect that to change any time soon.

Something that makes me want to try Windows 10 is Cortana. I have it on my phone and find it super helpful and the potential would be huge on PC.

Btw, ask Cortana: "What do you think about Steve Jobs?"
and "What do you think about Bill Gates?"

...just some geeky things I just had to ask Cortana when I first got my phone.

Don't hold your breath, according to the MS site .............
Cortana is only currently available on Windows 10 for the United States, United Kingdom, China, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

MS believe that everybody streams their media these days. I'd like to get them to come to my place and try and stream anything with my crappy internet.

Plenty of other media software out there, but there seems some doubt at this stage if W10 can support TV cards or not.
