That would make sense. Most of the complaints were related to the crap tyres that were on the cars. Considering a popular mod was the XR8 snorkel to improve air flow, I'm not surprised they went down the path of the carbon fiber snorkel. There is plenty of feedback relating to the power potential and reliability of the drivelines with increased power, although I'm sure in house testing would have covered this, but maybe not so much in terms of long term and real world ownership.

Pity they didn't do brakes/tyres/suspension etc like this on earlier cars they would have nailed HSV and survived.

So please explain why Holden aren't surviving either?

When all the R&D guys are out on their ear, they probably had no other choice anyway.

Not sure what you are meaning here, Stefan, as the R&D department is staying put?

I quote from Mike Costello, senior editor CarAdvice:

Ford’s Asia Pacific design and engineering facilities in Melbourne have the potential to branch out and lead the development of a range of more upmarket global models than we’ve seen from them before, according to a pair of senior staff in the design and vehicle integration departments.

The blue oval brand’s Australian R&D hub is perhaps best known for leading the development of the global Ranger ute (sold in 180 countries) and Everest SUV, as well as the Escort for China and Figo for India.

This is in addition, of course, to multiple generations of the Falcon and its subsequent Territory SUV derivative, though unlike the aforementioned projects, the fruits of those particular labours have not ventured beyond our borders to the same degree.

Vitally for Australia, while Ford is slowly winding down its Melbourne and Geelong car and engine-making factories ahead of a shut-down in October 2016, its 1100-strong R&D centre that can make an entire model line from "a white sheet" is going nowhere.

Makes sense for them to do that. Lets be honest, enthusiasts where always going to be the people actually buying them..

Good on Ford for doing it..

I'm surprised they didn't build a Commodore after reading some of the comments on this forum. LOL

Ford have engineering centres in Dearborn, Cologne and Melbourne. As they have barely any presence in Japan and only a minor share in Mazda these days, Japan is not an obvious location

They were always going to struggle going up against JDM cars. One of my best friends who lived in Toyko, said that fords were viewed similar to how we view Great Wall cars, as in the quality of the builds.

However I can't see why the Japanese would like the new RS as its small enough and quick enough for their needs

Meh....
If they were really listening B series would have been supercharged
FG would have been 351 across the range and the last performance falcon would have had a GTHO in its lineup..
I believe what has been demonstrated here is "selective hearing"
My kids have that skill too.

My only real complaints about the car are it's looks, no coilovers from Shockworks, engine oil temp & boost guages. Other than that they listened.
Brett was part of the original design team.
Still a worthy package.
