"Ford North America has confirmed it’s in the process of transitioning to a passenger car range comprising just the Mustang and Focus Active.
The company used its most recent financial release to confirm the news, consigning the Fusion, Taurus, Fiesta, C-Max and Focus to an early grave." https://www.caradvice.com.au/642577/...assenger-cars/ |

Ford are going to stop building cars that sell.
GM are building cars that do not sell. The end result will be that Ford and GM will be the same, only building trucks for the USA. |

So few buy sedans, makes me wonder whether the general disdain towards them has spread to many of those that currently own them.
Was at Bunnings yesterday and parked next to a white f6 typhoon, not sure of year model. It needed a wash, the front wheels were coated in brake dust, the duco was tattered and dull and a rusty box trailer was hitched up behind. Utterly disrespectful and very sad to see. Could even bring myself to photograph it. |

talking to my friend in Baltimore about three hours ago . He asked me what I thought of Ford's decision and I told him . Then I asked him what he thought of the distinct possibility that GM will be doing likewise with the Volt , a couple of Caddy's , and a couple of others and the Impala . "Not the Impala" he said .
He hadn't seen the list of GM's for the axe . The Impala is pretty iconic and Louis was genuinely upset by the impending doom of it . What is Dodge doing ?...Anybody know if they're heading down the same road ? |

WOW, beginning of the end of Ford as we know it?
Wonder how this will impact Ford globally long term? Will they become more of a commercial vehicle manufacturer like Isuzu?

FORD you are dumb , dumb , dumb . Makes no sense whatever way you look at it on the face of it . Why do they treat eveybody like we're all the same wanting butt ugly monstrous 'trucks' or something .
Rationalize the passenger car market , yes , but to basically destroy it is just plain stupid . FORD AMERICA YOU ARE OFFICIALLY IDIOTS . |

And the reason things are they way they are (in the US) is there aren't (enough) people interested in sedans/hatches. Ford US have changed tack in a big way and are investing in future tech...there are massive shifts coming to the auto market and they (seem) to be on the front foot getting ready for it. Aus can still source a range of passenger cars from Ford Europe. |

Ford Global will still build sedans and small cars at their other factories in Europe and South East Asia, which is where Australia gets its cars from anyways.
I read it that it's only the US market that this refers to.

Goodbye us getting any time a decently grunty Mondeo/Fusion and impossible that a Taurus SHO style 3.5 litre V6 twin turbo would ever grace our shores. Europe only builds ****y powered underwhelming Mondeo's that they dribble to us with a 2.0 Ecoboost as premium last time I looked. Ford keep wiping us including the 'home crowd' American customer base like a dirty bum ..Shame on them . Last edited by roddy1960; 26-04-2018 at 12:02 PM. |

But why throw the baby out with the bathwater though. How can they leave a market that Henry Ford effectively built the company on in the first place . Cars that most if not all could afford . I get it that some serious rationale needs to take place but I thought there'd be enough smart people at Ford to do that without jumping ship altogether from what used to be Ford Motor Company heartland .

For all the dodgy decisions that Fomoco have made over the years, it's nice to see them (try?) to get on the front foot. |

I dont see why people get ****ed off. If Ford aren't making any money from certain models they have every right to discontinue them. They are a business not a charity. Happens all the time.
As already mentioned it doesn't effect the range here which only shares the focus and mondeo anyway. |

Couldn’t care less. Mid size sedan is a highly competitive segment with no margins, and they are boring. Why would you take a Fusion/Mondeo over a Stinger anyway? Trucks, SUVs and Mustangs are what Ford does best.

So does that mean US cops will be driving Mustangs?

maybe,
The interceptor is now based on the Taurus since they stopped making the Crown. so if they stop Taurus.... It only leaves the Explorer - and I think there's an F150 variant going by this https://www.ford.com/police-vehicles/ or maybe a Lincoln interceptor if its future platform is shared the the Explorer

I wonder if Ford are waiting in a reply from the Trump Administration...
Remember last year Ford wanted to build Foci (Focus'?) in Mexico, but faced stern words from ol' Don about American workers etc...

My neighbour's eldest switches between a Charger and Taurus depending on his assignment. Most of the Crown Vic's have been cycled out by now. They tried some Malibus and Impalas, that lasted about 2 seconds.

While driving north of LA I was following an Impala that had a 'CA Exempt' plate. No idea if it was a cop car or if other government cars have those exempt plates. Last edited by Ben73; 29-04-2018 at 06:14 PM. |

Except for the caged vans that's all you need for general duties.
