Summary A list of vehicles all new provisional (P1 and P2) drivers are restricted from driving while on their provisional licence. Note: The information contained in each list is a guide only and subject to change at any time without notice. As well as eight cylinder, turbo and super charged vehicles, all new provisional (P1 and P2) drivers are restricted from driving the following high powered six cylinder vehicles: BMW M and M3 Honda NSX Nissan 350Z, Porsche (all models) Mercedes Benz SLK350 Go HERE to download the 2 files.. warning warning..98 pages plus another 4 for the hipo 6's (3 of which are porsche) For some reason the courier turbo diesel makes the list even though the RTA website says turbo diesels are not included. |

Yeah no surprises in it apart from the Turbo Diesels, a little rough if you're an apprentice tradie or something, my work has a new F Series and it's going to make things difficult if they put anyone new on.
As I read it I actually started laughing, i mean seriously, who the hell is going to drive a Bentley on their P's?! Get real RTA.

Also in there - the 85 Bronco with a 302W in it. 126kw and 358Nm of torque - and weighs 2123kg. That's 16.85 kg/kw. Pretty close to the power/weight ratio of the same year 1.6 litre Corolla!!!!! Yet another one - the 3.5 litre V8 Rover from the late 70's/80's. The last one in 85 had 106kw/245Nm. That's less power and slughtly more torque than a current 4cyl Camry!!! Also in there the 253 cu in Holden V8s. These are but a few of the painfully obvious uneducated additions to the list It's clearly obvious that no-one with intelligence works at the RTA - at least no-one near the top. That place seems like a circus...... except the clowns are running the show!!!!!

ROFL, damn man. Perhaps it would have been easier for them to release a list of cars we ******** P-platers ARE allowed to drive. Really such a shame for them to have gone to so much effort when so many P-platers are just gonna ignore it.

They forgot: S2000, 3.0L Z3, RX-8 and any fast 4 cylinder cars. Since this is supposedly about safety youd think theyd leave the 350z off with ESP, TCS, EBD, 6 airbags and a suspension setup that understeers when pushed hard its not exactly more dangerous than any 6 cylinder commodore or falcon ever produced.

It's just a stupid political exercise.
Worse than speed cameras. I remember a day when police actually used to pull you over for speeding! No they just ban you from driving fast cars. |

HAHA they got the Super Pursuit on the list... the darn thing hasn't even been released yet. And what about the Nissan Infiniti.. Does that thing even come to Australia in the First place?? Oh well, might just go and drive the fastest Subaru ever made, the 22B, as it's clearly not on the list :evil3:
How stupid is this list??? I feel like breaking something. I mean, a VW Golf GTi is off limits, but the faster, more race bred Golf R32 is nowhere to be seen on that list. :togo: the morons don't even bother to put the M3 or 350 Z etc.. on the list, coz they can't put a reason for it. Hmm.. they're lying bastards - Turbo Diesel exempt my ****. Ford F250/F350 7.3litre Powerstroke Turbo Diesel is on the prohibited list. With its whopping 175kW @ 2600rpm and 684Nm @ 1800rpm, and 0-100km/h time somewhere in the 17 second bracket - it must be ultra dangerous.
Petrol 5.4 V8 ones are on the list too... 194kW @ 4500rpm and 475Nm @ 2500rpm... I don't think they can hit 100km/h in faster then 20 seconds. Ultra performance machines! They list all the GT-HO's except PhaseIV... so if you've got one of the three.. What the bloody hell is high powered about a 200kW Mercedes SLK350? They took off quite a selection of 993, 996 and 997 Porsche 911's. Too bad they missed 901 - 964, lol. 1989 - 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera2 3.6 Coupe is perfectly legal it seems. And they missed some other nice 4cyls.. like Lotus Elise. Its a bit hard to suggest banning a 1.8litre 88kW car... even if it is faster then a VZ Clubsport R8, and about 500 times harder to drive. Such idiocy.. why do we keep these people in power? :

I suppose the only good thing about it is that if you are a current P-plater ya can still go and buy the most powerful car you want!!!
and I thought Diesel Turbo engined vehicles were supposed to be exempt??? |

If you check the legislation again you will find provisional driver already registered owners of high performance vehicles can keep them, But if they sell them, loose them or total them thats is while on P's, that is . Likewhise current P Platers cannot drive anything Hi Po just because they had a sudden lotto win. As for family owned vehicles it must be the sole family vehicle and it must be outside the metro area. So if mum has an echo and Dad has a GT guess which one your driving. Again a piece of legisaltion that any sensible parents would have already enforced. In fact taking dads car in most circimstaces is still punishable by corporal punishment in most caring households. |

I did say this sort of thing doesn't happen in normal situations. If dad is stupid enough to leave his keys and junior is stupid enough to drive the thing well it just goes to prove Darwin's Theorum now doesn't it. I'm not against restricting what young drivers can get loose in, in fact I'm all for it. But this piece of legislation is as stupid as the Govt that imposed it and those know it all fools that it attempts to protect. |

SV6 not on list? no XR6's except for the turbos.... I think that leaving off the older aussie sixes is stupid. NA VL's are the cheap way to go fast and yet they can be driven till the cows come home.
The RTA needs to think like a cash strapped teenager with a need for speed. A 350Z doesnt enter his mind. If they are anything like me they would have picked up cheapest V6 commodore they could find... Cheap fast cars are just as dangerous.

So IF I had a straight six 24 litre aircraft engined veteran with 500hp and a chain drive I can still go to maccas. PHEW!
I cant believe these people get paid. I have another idea for change in legislation that has no evidence, all politicians MUST have their brains reinserted! I am so annoyed about this. I wanted my kids to have cars with some poke, and wanted to build them with them, I guess not. |

In fact if a lot more parents actually took the time and the involvement there wouldn't be a problem. But most parents just write a cheque. I have seen do a myriad of ty job to pay for their first car, and then had poured hundred of hours into restoring and customising it. These kids had a whole different respect for it, it was way too much to risk. Yet how often do you see mum & dad write a cheque in full for "something sensible", funny how many of those end up trashed, crashed or driven into the ground. Generalisations maybe, but you dont learn how a car behaves from a video simulator and you dont learn how it works by buying one. There are lots of tasty 4 potters you could build with the kids, that would be fun & credible as a first car. Last edited by RED_EL_XR8; 13-06-2005 at 08:04 PM. |
