Default If Ford Built The Galaxie, Would You Buy One?

I was looking on another Ford Enthusiasts Website, and stumbled across the pictures of a Prototype Fairlane XR8. Discounting todays fuel prices, would you buy one? HSV doesn't deserve the WHOLE luxo/sport market, so why shouldn't Ford build one.

If I had the need for a V8, which I haven't yet, and had money to burn on a car, this would be my first choice. Lets see FPV build one. 290Kw, 6 Speed Auto, Brembos. Grange beating, and from Ford.

-Andrew

yes, the pictures are from Fordmods

I've seen threads on this before and every time, there has been lots of people saying they'd buy one if it was available. I'd also love one. Maybe FPV should pay attention to all this popularity and actually produce it. Calling it the Galaxie certainly wouldn't hurt sales either!

Yeah there's been plenty of threads on this one before - I wont tell you that by now it has been crushed (was only ever an incomplete shell made for display purposes).

Id have one for sure.

I would even contemplate parting with my beloved S series for one of these, but me thinks Ford will not have the forsight - read "gonads" - to produce a performance luxo cruiser.

It was only ever meant to be a showcar - and a half one at that. The interior was empty shell, and the bodykit wasnt finished.

come to think of it, i wonder if we will see a similar bodykit on the BF FPV cars.

like the inside of the R5 ute was similar to the BA inside.

Funny thing is, everyone who says they'd love one of these would take a GTP or even a top spec XR8 over it anyday. With less than 70 sales for the TL50, and only 3 for series 3, I think Ford has been burnt badly for this car.

Meanwhile, I don't think the grange has any false pretenses - its simply a sports spec Caprice after all, and probably picks up more sales off the popularity of the stateman/caprice being the lwb car to buy rather than the street cred of HSV.

Im sure that does have a lot to do with it, although it would be interesting to see. G220 was a very half-arsed attempt at a sports orientated LWB model which never really worked for a number of reasons - mainly the fact that all you really got for your extra dollars over a Fairlane Ghia was different coloured seats and a little badge on the quarter panel. 220 was certainly not the most performance orientated engine (in standard form) either.

I think if it were to be built (Galaxie) it would sell but as with every other mass produced item it needs to sell at a rate that sustains and justifies its existence. This is where it would fall short - Grange sales certainly arent in the higher portion of HSV's income.
Youve also gotta remember that first and foremost this car was nothing more than concept - a production model would not look like that. There was talk about the bonnet emblem sticking out being an ADR/Pedestrian safety issue. Jaguar, who have a similar thing on their bonnets, actually had to redesign and construct it so in the event of an impact it will collapse and not cause further injury to whoever/whatever you hit.

I am in love with that car, it is a shame for dismantled it..

I would (money permitting) buy one in a heart beat.

However, due to $1.20 plus petrol prices, no-one would buy one.

even if i could only afford to just stick it in a shed somwhere and only drive it once a week, id buy one.

but seeing as it was only a concept car (bastards!)i think im going to continue to save for a TL50.

It surprises me that an enterprising lad has not created a kit to replicated the look of it (minus those wacky brakelights... though something else from the borning BA ones would be cool).

I've said it before and i'll say it again. I would actually BUY a BA if it a) looked liked that or b) there was a kit that looked like that.

Was called the Galaxy 500. The bottom two pictures actually look like ones I took myself and posted on the other forum, have since lost the rest. The rear bar was made of 3 sections of 3 GT bumpers, and still had an unfinished section on it. The same gent that told me that also told me as I was taking the photo's it was bound to be crushed.

Had huge 20 inch momo rims and monster brakes that were donated by Roman AutoTech, and was porn on 4 wheels.

I congratulate you on the pictures. I also must say that the website that I 'borrowed' them off was not the old site, however was FordMods, which you will discover if you highlight my first thread. I posted it in white, however nobody has seen that yet.

Personally, I would have loved a T3 TL50, however my budget then could not stretch that far, however today it may be able to, but my Wife would not drive the car, and there is a V8 ban at work because of the price of Petrol.

Good photos mate. But, I thought it was called the Galaxie 540, with the 540 being because of the 5.4L V8. If you look at the number plates in the photos it says 540 as well, not 500

Its actually the Galaxy 540, we origanly thought it might signafy 540Ci, but we where wrong, it is for 5.4ltr.

What about this? Found it on cardomain.com, belongs to FPV Galaxy.

It is a G220, it has 20'' Rims, twin 3'' exhuast system, GT-P interior, BF GT-P front bar and a bonnet buldge.
Closest I've seen to the 540.
