Im picking one up in the coming days and it is a rally car - has stickers all over it but im going to remove these and I want to paint it. Its a plastic shell, and knowing nothing about this sort of thing, how do I go about painting it? Im planning to use the same paint as my real car is done with (I want it the same colour).

Do it pretty much as you would for a real car just use finer wet&dry and a lot more care.

Airbrushing is the way to go with scale models. I think you can buy compressed air in aerosol cans from hobby shops, with the airbrush guns to suit.
As long as you can get your desired colour in acrylic form, you should be right. |

As swanny said, just practice a lot so that you can get a nice out of the gun shine without too much paint volume. Give the tupperware a new paint job! Maybe a lunch box with GT stripes!

IMO get yourself a cheap ( snaptite - about 10 bucks) model kit and practice painting with it.
i used to be heavily into it, and it takes a bit of practice to get decent paintjobs i used to use the aerosol cans that you can get in actual car colours... |

I've used aerosol touch up paint before and found 'baking it' in front of a warm heater gave a more glossy finish.
Also try not to spray on or rub back too much as you can loose sharpness on some of the fine details. While your at it take the time to clean up an rough bits from the mould as if you do too good a job they really stand out. Make sure you post some pics when your done.

Thanks guys, I am thinking about getting just a cheapy Holden model or something to practice on first too, i dont wanna stuff this one up.
Yes its a Focus  :.Should look good when ive done it (hopefully)!

all of mine are dismantled at the moment or else i'd throw up a few pics....
ive got some awesome models - just have to be re-done (i did them when i was a lot younger, now i want to do them properly) |
