Hey guys and gals, was at the motor show yesterday and my mate saw a BA GT for the first time, he says 'you should put a gt bodykit on ur XR6'. I told him this was not 'the done thing'. He wasnt too happy with this seeing as he has a (wait for it) VY S crumpledoore with a HSV bodykit.
I was just wondering what are your thoughts on the subject of putting a GT bodykit on a XR6 so i can give him some reasons...

Don't see the problem with it, just think you're betting off wearing big shoes to show the world you're a clown.

There's nothing wrong with fitting what you consider to be a better looking bodykit. The only time I think someone is a clown, is when they try and convince everybody they own a GT, when it isn't. Hell.....I have XR stuff on my Ghia.....nothing wrong with that, as long as I don't bullshit about it.

There are plenty of BA XRs, AUs and nonXRs running around with GT bits and pieces. No harm in it at all. In fact if that's what you want, you should talk to the guys at AWC (free plug for you Adam!)

Nothing wrong with it at all. Your car is just a lower spec version really.
Upgrade to whatever you want. It's done all the time in e-series with the eb-gt front bar, bonnet scoops, fairmont ghia interiors... It's just that SOME GT purists hate it. I have Ghia seats in my falcon, i know its not a ghia. Havent found any fairmont fans abusing me yet |

i reckon in the search for the 'perfect', or at least 'better' car (a search that never ends :P) you are entitled to do as you wish. i myself have purchased some parts which are off higher spec models, but i have done so purely because i like the way the look. hypothetically here, if i owned an xr fairmont but i thought the base model had a better body kit, id get it. obviously this isnt the case with any model, but im just making a point. the only thing im a bit dubious about though is making stuff out to be higher models than they are without keeping the performance side of things up to scratch. ie, a full gt kit with striping and badging, on an XT with no engine/interior work. thats a bit iffy in my books, unless you (you as in a general person, not you specifically) are making a replica, in which case youd probably re-do the interior and engine anyway, and the cost and work would probably make it not worth it. but anyway, im getting a bit off topic here, but thats my take on things. its an xr anyway so its already 'better' than a base model, youd only be improving on the appearance. i see nothing wrong with it

great idea, it'll look great and it's a fantastic kit with the stripe option being my only dislike, and thats only with some colours
but It isn't a GT - I i don't beleive that any car should be jazzed up to look like something it isn't. Mod the GT kit - thats a different thing, not my thing, but your not trying to make something that you don't have. |

I don't have any issues with this sorta thing at all. The only thing I wouldn't do is stick GT badges all over it.

Go to all the efforts and it'll still be what it is a GT Bodykit on a XR6.
But hey its your car, if you like it that way, enjoy it. It'll never look like the real thing, doesn't meant it cant look good, and you'll have to suffer the wrath of the insecure banging on that "its not the real thing". Personally I'd rather enjoy it for what it is. Last edited by RED_EL_XR8; 07-02-2005 at 08:47 AM. |

It's one thing to do up a car with higher-spec bodykits, etc, but to claim one's car is something that it isn't (ie aforementioned badges), this will leave the owner open to ridicule. However the KFC V8 Supercar "Cardboard-Fibre Wing" Volvo will always rule supreme :evilking: -Dave- |

I couldn't think of anything worse than pulling up next to a real GT in a fake badged up GT. :

it doesnt have the stock front bar...it has the X2R addons that make it chunkier...
C2R made this kit to restlye the XR series, and not to replace bumpers on an XT etc (as with the AU kit they made) the rear and front consists of the add on pieces that u see on each side |

Hey its your car mate... but i'd personally would be spending the moolah on a nice set of rims and the rest on performance mods etc.

What ever makes you happy is what you should do. But on the same token like lv619 says a good set of wheels and some performance mods would be a good idea too.

I wouldn't put a FPV bodykit on a non-FPV. That's the epitome of rice IMO... trying to be something it isn't.
