Default Blood Donations

Just wanting to know if anyone here donates blood?
I heard on the radio and read in the paper that they were running low on a couple of blood types so I thought I may aswell.
I unfortunately didn't get to give much. I'd been drinking tea and coffee all day (bad, dehydrates ya) and only had a few glasses of water and OJ. She put the needle in and it was ok for a few seconds, then she forgot to loosen the torniquet. My whole arm was really really tingling badly, she had to take it out and I felt like I could have just about fainted. I'll be going again in 3 months tho, making sure I've had a mega feed before hand with a hell of a lot of water.

I used to do it all the time, then I got them to put me on a different local mailing list for the reminders, somwhere along the way they stuffed it up and I dont get any reminders anymore and I always forget.

I want to start again though.

We did it as a group from our school once. I can't remember why, if it was part of a subject, or just some people being community minded that organised it.

I HATE needles. I have refused several blood tests, and I still have to be distracted by stuffed toys when having blood taken by my doctor.

I'm such a wuss.

I would but I can't. Simple reason of overcomeing the whole neeble aspect. When I was young and was getting a shot, the morone went into the wrong place and hit my bone. After that I haven't been able to put a needle in me.

I enjoy giving blood, makes me feel better knowing that i'm helping someone. I'll never donate money ... i know it all isn't going to reach the intended charity, this is a perfect way to dontate without paying marketing company drones.

the 3L of water before hand really cleans you out ;)

Both me and mrs b2tf are regular donors. I think Ive done it about 19 times or so now. Second rarest blood type - no common gutter blood in these veins!

I'm O neg, a rare one but the "universal" type that can give to all others. That's just how nice I am really. I have given about 6 or 7 times, do it regularly nowadays each 3-4 months. They come to work.

Haven't done It before and don't intend to. I hate having blood taken and feel like crap afterwards. Congrats guys you are braver than myself. I find other ways to help out charity. Lol reminds me of that Simpsons episode when Bart donates blood to Mr Burns.

That's not a stupid idea. However, co-ordinating the day so each state has a Blood Bus to go to that's central to everyone would be tough.

I did it twice in school, but it leaves me pale white afterwards and it concerns the nurses taking the blood. So I stopped.

I'm O negative as well. I donate because i'm healthy and young and there could be others out there that are O negative as well that can only recieve O negative (O Neg is the universal donor, but individual reciever).

I've been donating blood for about 5 years mostly every 3 months, but sometimes I forget and it blows out to 6 months.

My family also has a small history of hemachromatosis which is the posioning of the liver due to excessive iron. I can not eat red meat or drink OJ or any other of those good 'iron' things and still score well into the high end of the iron count. Donating blood is about the only way known to avoid hemachromatosis. So its healthy for me too.

If you donate the following becomes fun:
Sugar highs
Cheap drunk (really cheap - 2 or 3 'girly' drinks and you are gone)
Exercise becomes a challenge due to lower amount of red blood cells over the next week.

Yeah I too hear they are low.. i can't even remember what blood type I am :P?

I might be goin for a blood test every 5 months though hehe... damn colesterol but needles are good..i don't mind 'em at all(I get some good ladie nurses ) ... had 3 blood tests within 5 minutes when they were trying to find out why I get head spins... think i'm eatn too much junk food :(

I havn't thought about donating blood, not in the family history so they will think i've gone insane... although I think everyone should cause one day you might need a (blood transfusion???). I probably do it one day =)

Well done James, and all those who donate as well!

I am going to donate, but not just yet. Im pregnant and have gestational diabetes, so I dont think they would let me. However, once Ive had the baby, Im going to go with my workmates, as we get paid time off work to do it around the corner.

I had a very large blood transfusion reasonably recently and it saved my life, so Id like to give some back. Id never really considered it before. Im not scared of needles at all, doesnt bother me, so Im quite happy to do it as often as needed.

I think the AFF blood donation would be a great idea, it might be better to have an AFF donation week rather than a day. Someone could find out the centres for blood donation in all the places that people nominate for and a list of locations could be made.

I Regularly donated when I was in Oz. Can't donate in Scotland because I wouldn't be allowed to give when I returned. Apparently they're not as clean in the UK hospitals as the blood bank would like.

It's amazing just how many people hate needles, really really common. Not having a go at anyone, just amazing!! Come on non-needle haters, time to give generously! It's the only thing that's free and is healthy to give more!!!
