Hi guys, just wondering if any of you guys use creatine as a supplement when weight training??
Ive heard both good and bad about it and just wanted your opinions, the main negative point made about it is... "Renal dysfunction accompanying oral creatine supplements" so... what do you think?? |

dont mix it with caffeine if you do in moderation it will put you to sleep. creatine plus caffeine tabs and i could go to sleep on the bench they dont mix. it works well though its just another amino acid. a good protein powder will have enough creatine in it. glutamine also helps. you dont really need to spend a shitload on supplements a good protein powder usually has what you need. you take any morea and you **** it out.

ok im a medical student near graduation and im also a member of the asutralian taekwon do team, so i have a bit of info on this cuz its a topic close to home, ive looked into the whole creatine thign and you need to take ridiculous amounts to get any value from taking creatine and powder, their main benefit is actually a placebo, yeah they have minute value (a little bit even tho its not as much as you think your getting is better than nothing) but you would be far better off changing your diet to include shiteloads of protein as your body actually uses that far more efficently but meh....each to their own.

If you've got to resort to using chemical substances..to get what you want.....your a fool..do it naturally...yes it will take longer and not give the same build in as short a time.
But bottom line do you want to live to a good old ripe age or die before your time.

I don't take it myself. I have been taking Horley's Ripped factors tho - primarily coz of the extra protein but the other added weight loss ingredients help too.

MO - are you even aware of what creatine is? By your comments - I'm thinking not.
Its a naturally occuring compound that your body actually makes anyway. If you are training in the gym and simply supplying your body better levels of what it needs - I cant see a thing wrong with that. And here you are on about using chemicals and staying natural and dying young, etc, etc. Pretty uninformed soapbox you just stepped up on. Bigbird I've never used creatine no. But im with some of the other comments - a good protein powder - and diet - cant go wrong. I found some really good gains just playing around with the timings of what I eat (yep mosman69 - good protein is key!) in relation to when I train. Good luck with it. If you use it let us know how you found it. |

If creatine is produced naturally...why do you need to take a chemical substitute...capiche!

For many years and could not get over the number of body builders /power lifters that were putting crap into their bods....you know roids etc....I did all my work on a good healthy diet of natural foods. Strange thing is I never once had a roid or chemical substitute problem...as for the others well...

Easy to sit behind a keyboard and knock someone simply after some information. I'll never know if you did go the gym for many years - but if that was your attitude to training and looking after your body I'd bet you stopped because of lack of results. Again I fail to see how supplementing your body with the correct intakes of vitamins and/or naturally occuring compounds (are you against protein powder too?) is 'a problem'. I also cant see how this would lessen your lifespan as you've suggested in earlier posts. Training in the gym and giving your body the right fuel to train on - surely your health is in far greater shape? |

I have used creatine monohydrate some time ago.In anaerobic activity after loading I could sprint much much faster. Also you dont realise it but it helps yo train beyond your limits in weight trainning. The result for me was inflammed tendons.
I would not recommend anyone take creatine, whey protein or any of that crap.Instead of whey, eat egg whites. They are the most bioavailable natural protein. I think my heart got blocked from all of these "supplements" Whey protein goes rock hard if you leave it in a cup..what is it doing to your heart? To your arteries? Creatine monohydratre is said to attack your kidneys due to excessive creatine levels in urine and excess nitrogen. While it did work for me I will never take the stuff ever again.

And when you are told by your doctors to give it away because it will kill you.....then you tell me how you feel. Oh and just a small aside when you go back to school and learn how to use the english language properly....then I will give creedence to your otherwise extremely puerile posts. My husband has told me a story of a guy in the gym he trains with occasionaly who uses the creatine monohydrate as well.He was drinking it like water. His weight, his body strength every thing was on the improve to the point where he had to stop trainning with him because of the amount of weight he was pushing, he even started trainning twice a day. Until it broke, the guy ended up in hospital for three months his kidneys had failed badly because of the amount of creatine that had built up in there. When he did finally see him he had lost 30 kilos and had to start from scratch. He just overdid it.

Ive used it, dont anymore.
I actually got cramps from it. Just drink a heap of water with it, which you should be doing anyway. Also creates water retention, so people often mistake water weight for muscle gains. Tim |

I've used it. I found it gave me a lot more go at the gym (probably half psychological) and I could squeeze out a few more reps. I noticed (and others too) a decent physical change in muscle - particularly shoulders and biceps. But like said, it's mostly just water retention.
I'll stick to protein if I get back into gym!

thanks to all for your replies and thoughts.. ive been getting great amounts of protein through my diet and some supplements throughout my time working out and that works a treat.
Still not sure if im gonna try creatine or not, a mate uses it and he thinks its good, but we both manage a similar workout so I might give it a miss for now. |
